32 in trouble over open grazing in Benue

Thirty-two persons are being prosecuted for alleged violation of Benue state’s Open Grazing Prohibition Law.

The law took effect from Nov. 1, 2017, the state commissioner of police,, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said.

He said measures were being taken, including visibility policing, to stem the ceaseless killings in the state.

“In order to strengthen our visibility in the state, we have established Tactical Operation Points in 22 locations within Makurdi metropolis.

“This gives a holistic security coverage to the metro.

“This was started last Thursday and the 22 points will be covered on 24 hours basis.

“With regards to the enforcement of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of the state, was have 32 suspects undergoing trial in respect to that.

“The court processes are being carried out along with the Benue state Ministry of Justice.

He said 105 persons have also been arrested and arraigned for alleged civil disturbances recently in Makurdi metropolis.

“We also have 11 suspects facing trial for homicide and mischief by fire which took place in Guma and Logo local government areas.
