Bauchi State House of Assembly recently celebrated two years of its inauguration with a special valedictory session which was attended by former speakers and clerks of the Assembly.
Speaking at the occasion, the present Speaker, Rt. Hon Kawuwa Shehu Damina commended the members for their support, loyalty and cooperation in the discharge of their duties.
The 31- member Assembly was inaugurated on June 15, 2015 amidst colourful ceremony that saw the participation of the Executive Governor of the state and some dignitaries including traditional rulers.
At the recent ceremony in the Assembly complex, Speaker Kawuwa Shehu Damina noted that the House has recorded 37 Bills 85 motions, eleven petitions, 45 committees reports 17 messages and 27 matters of urgent public importance
He explained that the achievement underscores the determination, perseverance and commitment of the members to impact positively on the lives of the people of the state.
The Speaker expressed appreciation to the executive arm for the cordial relationship between the two which made it possible for them to record such immense achievements and promised to replicate or even improve on the two year scorecard
Damina thanked all former speakers and clerks of the Assembly who graced the occasion for their elderly advice and called on all members to observe a minute silence in honor of the departed souls of two former speakers Yerima Papa and Tanko Jalam and prayed Almighty Allah to grant them eternal rest.
Also speaking, the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Markus Makama representing Bogoro Constituency, said the leadership has acknowledged the participation of every member devoid of party affiliation to contribute towards the development of the state.
A former speaker Bappa Haruna Disina who spoke on behalf of the former speakers extolled the virtues of the House members especially for being united, progressive and hardworking in the discharge of their duties.
Highlights of the occasion included unveiling the stature of official mace of the Assembly constructed by the Director of Culture in the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Zamani Wasanni.
While unveiling the mace, the Speaker urged civil servants to emulate the exemplary conduct of the director who dedicated his service to the betterment and progress of the state.
He called on the State Head of Civil Service, Liman Bello to display this exemplary attitude as he has promised to initiate a process of rewarding the sacrifice made by the director.
There was a cultural display by the state cultural troupe to commemorate the occasion.
