Buhari Writes Senate, Seeks Confirmation of Shonubi

As the National Assembly resumed from its three-week recess on Tuesday, the Senate received a correspondence from President Muhammadu Buhari, requesting the confirmation of Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as a deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, read the president’s letter on the floor of the Senate during Tuesday’s plenary.

The request of the president is premised on section 81(2) of the CBN Act.

“Dear distinguished senate president, in accordance to the provisions of section 81 (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) establishment Act 2007, I have the pleasure to present Mr Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi for confirmation as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria,” the letter read.

“Find attached, a copy of his curriculum vitae.

“While looking forward for your usual expeditious consideration, please accept, Mr senate president, the assurances of my highest regards,” the letter read.

Shonubi, prior to his appointment, was the managing director of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc. He earlier held several positions in financial service operations, including as Executive Director at Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Renaissance Securities Nigeria Ltd and Ecobank Nigeria Plc.

Before plenary yesterday, the Senate went into a closed door session which lasted for about an hour.

The Senate President, after the executive session, said that the Senate had deliberated on topical issues bothering the nation and the National Assembly in general.
