Bauchi State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed A. Abubakar is certainly not one of the vocal Governors in the country. But he is surely a well focused leader whose commitment to the governance of his state can hardly be faulted even by his political adversaries.
In the last two and half years since assumption of office, Governor Abubakar has learnt to balance the diversities in the state in terms of religion and ethnicity to deliver on his campaign promises. In a country where payment of workers salaries has become a major headache for some Governors, Abubakar stands out a reference point for prompt payment of salaries. Not has he cleared arrears of salaries he inherited on assumption of office, the Bauchi Governor paid January 2018 salaries in advance, in December 2017 to enable workers start the new year on a sound financial note.
In his determination to address the gross infrastructure deficit in the state, Governor Abubakar has turned Bauchi into one construction yard as he has embarked on several projects at the same time. His approach shows clearly that he is in a hurry to make difference. While some of his peers are only about initiating road projects, Governor Abubakar has completed the 300 KM Misau-Bulkachuwa- Udubo- Gemawa road to ease movement of goods and people in that axis. He has also constructed the Misau- Azare road which he finished within record time.

Bauchi, the state Capital has all benefitted from the infrastructure revolution taking place in the state. Governor Abubakar has initiated the construction of CBN round about- Railway Round About road as well as the Fadama Mada road within the Bauchi metropolis.
The most striking road projects are three external arteries from Bauchi – Jos, Bauchi- Kano and Bauchi to Gombe, all of which he is dualising 5KM each to ease entry into city.
Other road projects executed by the Governor are Kume theSule Katagum road in Katagum town, the Zaki LG bridge which construction was promised by almost all previous administrations in the state and actually appeared in all annual budgets was never constructed! There is also te 6.5 KM Toro- Barkin Kogi road which has also been completed by the administration.
Other roads includes 62KM in Darazo LGA, 45KM in Jama’are LGA respectively.
But it is not only in the area of road construction that Governor Abubakar has made positive impact on his people. In the health sector for instance, he has completed 332 Maternity centres in 20 LGAs of the state to address the challenges faced by pregnant women who lacked access to health facilities during labour.
He has also commenced renovation of General hospitals in Katagum, Tafawa Balewa, Udubo, and Alkaleri LGAs of the state.
Governor Abubakar has also renovated 400 primary and 45 secondary schools accross the 20 LGAs of the state.
Against the background of the economic recession which negatively affected the Nigerian economy for much of 2017, Governor Abubakar excelled through the judicious application of the state’s lean resources to people-oriented projects with impressive results.
For the great success recorded in the delivery of quality road projects and other infrastructure facilities to the people, thereby changing the narrative of governance in Bauchi State, the Editorial Board nominated Alhaji Mohammed A. Abubakar as DAILY ASSET Governor of the Year.
