FCE Zaria: Hold Me Responsible for Failure, Says Governing Council Chairman

Chairman of the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria Dr. Bello Yusuf-Lafiyagi has said that there will be change at the end of his tenure, ‘‘if you do not see change at the expiration of my tenure hold me responsible.”

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the college, recently, Yusuf-Lafiyagi added that “I promise you good victory, good welfare, promotion,’’ amongst others.

He also solicited for backing, saying “I need your total support and cooperation, both internal and external, to be able to project the image of the college.’’

For his parts the Emir of Zazzau, Dr. Shehu Idris, who is also the Chairman of the occasion appreciated the college for inviting him and making him the chairman of the occasion.

Represented by the Fagacin Zazzau, Alhaji Umar Mohammed, the Emir assured assured members of the new board of full support and cooperation.

He advised them to liaise with him in case of anything that required his input, urging both staff and students to sustain the prevailing peace in the college.

Earlier, the Provost of the College, Dr. Ango Abdullahi Ladan recalled that the College, which was a front runner in teacher training in the nation came into existence in 1962 as Northern Secondary Teachers’ College (NSTC).

He said the college later became Advance Teachers’ College (ATC) under Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).

Dr. Ladan said the mission of the College was to attract and retain the best manpower for the training of dynamic teacher-trainee for service in an enabling academic environment.

According to him the vision of the college is to remain a pacesetter in teacher education.

He said as a result of changes in government policy in education, the college was distracted from ABU in 1991 to become Federal College of Education (FCE).

Members of the board include Dr. Ango Ladan, Provost, FCE and Mrs G. P. Ngubani representing Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs J. F. Suleiman representing National Commission for Colleges

of Education (NCCE), Dr. A’isha Mohammed representing Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and Malam Bala Wakili and Dr Jibrin Lawal Registrar of the College and the Council.
