FOCUS ON SANs FROM THE NORTH: Mr Rickey Tarfa

A native of Gargika in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Mr Rickey Tarfa was born February 23, 1962. He studied Law at the University of Maiduguri, and graduated from the University with an LL.B Hons in the 1986. After his graduation from the university, he at-tended the Nigerian Law School in Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. He proceeded to obtain his Master of Laws Degree from the University of Lagos 1990.

As a committed and determined legal practitioner, Tarfa in 2000 was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria. He has taken several cours-es, both locally and internationally, including the 29th Maritime short course in Southampton, United Kingdom in the year 2002.

Rickey Tarfa SAN is a senior and active member of the Nigerian Bar Association. He is a member of the Interna-tional Bar Association, as well a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. For his excellence in advocacy, Tarfa has bagged sev-eral awards and recognition, including Paul Harris Fel-low Award (of Rotary International, 2007), Men of Achievement Award (Corporate Press, 2007), Rotary Ex-cellence Award (2003), Law Personality of the Year 2004 (Fame Achievers Award, 2004), Life patron of the Na-tional Association of Judicial Correspondents (2003), and Lawyer of the Year Award in 2001 (City People Awards of Excellence).

Rickey Tarfa served as one of the members of the Fed-eral Government ten – member panel of inquiry, formed to investigate the activities of the National Electric Pow-er Authority Authority (NEPA) in 1994. He is currently a member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigerian Bar Association, as well as  Member, Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) in Nigeria.  Tarfa is  the Principal Counsel/ Head of Practice, in his Law firm, Rickey Tarfa & CO.
