Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Sabastian Maimako has said that the Federal Government through TETFund gave the University an award letter for the renovation of the burned library to the tune of N729 million.
Prof. Maimako, expressed his fair over some bureaucracy contained in procurement processes which he said may delay the rebuilding of the burnt library.
He however disclosed that the University at the moment has about 70 individuals and institutions of goodwill from Nigeria and abroad who have offered to contribute in the rebuilding of the burned library in different ways in line with the ongoing campaign tagged, “Beauty from Ashes.”
At the moment, the university has about 39 programmes awaiting visitation at different level by the NUC while 4 programmes earlier on denied visitation before his coming were been visited. He added that the institution had about 8 International MoU signed with other institutions and organizations to help in the development of the University in the country, the vice chancellor said.
Besides, he noted that “before now our staff who were on approved full time study leave used to lose promotion because they were not on ground. But since our assumption of office, we have introduced a new policy on promotion which has been approved by the Governing Council. By this policy, any staff who returns from study leave is promoted once he meets the criteria among other interventions put in place.”
He added that the university has recorded significant development in the area of infrastructure as works resumed on the abandoned and uncompleted projects with new projects instituted across campuses. Especially the works on Senate building, provision of facilities to new faculties, extension of the University healthcare centre building, construction of new student hostels at Naraguta campus.
Others are renovation of Dalash Suites which was bought by the University, works on the faculty of Social Science Complex and Faculty of Art (Block ‘B’), rehabilitation of Demonstration secondary school, Alumni hall with special attention to the Estate and land administration, building maintenance, civil engineering unit among others.
