Kano State Government has stated that the renaming of Northwest University after the late Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, is an expression of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration determination to honour sons and daughters of Kano who have sacrificed their lives to the development of the state.
The institution is henceforth known as Yusuf Maitama Sule University, Kano.
The State Commissioner of Information, Mallam Mohammed Garba, who stated this in Kano, said the decision was taken during an extraordinary meeting of the State Executive Council.
The renaming of the University according to Mallam Garba is to immortalise the late Danmasanin Kano, Dr. Yusuf Maitama Sule, for his immense contributions to the development of Kano State, the North and Nigeria.
The council also approved the renaming of Dawaki Road where the residence of the late diplomat is located as Yusuf Maitama Sule Road. And, the Yusuf Maitama Sule link road had been renamed as Jafaru Danmallam link road.
The institution is one of the two state-owned universities established by the past Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s Administration.
