Growers Highlight Economic Value of Sunflower

National President Sunflower Growers Processors and Marketers Association of Nigerian, Jibrin K. Bukar has said sunflower has many economic value that will improve the country’s economic drive.

Bukar who stated this in an interview in Zaria the activities of the association, said the large quantity of oil from sunflower has less cholesterol and it is medicinal.

He said the association is doing its best to mobilise

farmers as well as industrialists for extraction of oil from sunflower for consumption, adding that already, the association has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with some companies on how to buy the oil at the competitive market.

Jibrin Bukar called on the government to assist by linking them to international markets, also the association is working hand-in-hand with Institute of Agricultural Research

(IAR), National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) all in Zaria for the available markets.

Sunflower controls cell damage and play a role in preventing cancer, it also contains bone healthy minerals, it contains antioxidants which attack conditions that are inflammatory in nature such as joint pains, gastric ulcer, skin eruption and asthma.

It is also referred as the world’s healthiest food, because sunflower seeds are very rich deposit while the oil contains folic acid which helps the body to manufacture new cells.
