How Abba Kyari led Team arrested escapee criminals linked to Senator Melaye
Facts have emerged that criminal suspects linked to Senator Dino Melaye who escaped from jail in Kogi were rearrested by Abba Kyari led Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT).
Mr. Kyari, a deputy commissioner of police, has been involved in intelligence and tracking operations that has led to arrest of notorious criminals.
One of the gang members Kabiru Seudi popularly known as Osama was arrested in Bauchi by the police IRT, adding that Osama and five of his gang members who escaped from a police cell in Kogi state have taken into custody.
Kyari who led the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) were ordered by the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, to locate and arrest the suspects after they had escaped from the cells on Kogi. It was gathered that the IGP was furious and weighed on the embarrassment of the jail break when he received the information of the suspects escape.
Kyari and his men were moved to Kogi state on the orders of Idris and commenced work which led to the re-arrest of the suspects within three days of their escape.
Sources within the police said Kyari and his team through a hi-tech intelligence tracked and apprehended Osama and Salihu who had confessed to the police that the Senator representing Kogi West district, Dino Melaye engaged and armed them to cause terror in the state.
It was also gathered that Osama was arrested in his hideout somewhere in Bauchi state and flown to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The sources said after the jail break and escape of the suspects it was believed that it was an arrangement by the police to allow the suspects to escape to cover their tracks. Melaye had earlier been declared wanted by the police for his alleged involvement in handing over illegal weapons to some kidnappers who claimed to be his thugs.
The Senator was gathered to have been protected from arrest by local vigilante men who encircled him, making it impossible for the SARS operatives to get close to him.
