I ‘ll use Alia Party to Dislodge Zam in 2027, Says Hwande

From Attah Ede, Makurdi

The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, Dr Stephen Hwande, said he would use the influence and development of governor Hyacinth Alia to defeat the senator representing Benue-North West senatorial seat, otherwise known as known Zone B, Senator Titus Zam in 2027.

Hwande who has indicated all seriousness to contest the position in 2027, stated this while answering questions from journalists immediately after attending the 2025 World Breastfeeding Week at BSUTH premises in Makurdi.
According to him sacking of Zam is a small task, hence there has been a failure of representation at the National Assembly with regards to Zone B, adding that there is nothing to show for his being at the Senate.
”So, I say that Zam is a small matter. Benue will be 50 years old next February. Now, compare Benue with Ogun. Ogun too will be 50 years old. Now, if you rate Benue among the 36 States in the country, which South Eastern state South-South, South-West states is Benue ahead of? Those ones alone are 17.”When you come to the Middle Belt, is Benue ahead of the Plateau? What of Kwara and Nasarawa? When you go to the north, are us ahead of Kaduna? Or Kano? Benue will be ranked around 27, 28. Why? Leadership structure, leadership recruitment.“So, when you have people who are not prepared for the position, you have people in the National Assembly who don’t know their duties. They think their duty is to come and check the Governor. Is the duty of the National Assembly person to come and check the governor? If we have National Assembly people that are serious, will IDPs be protesting?”So, it’s a failure of representation and when people have failed exams, they leave the system. So, they will leave the system and we will replace them. Have I failed at the teaching hospital? If I failed, would I talk about it? When you do more work, more work is given to you. When you fail, come and stay at home. But the people of Benue state will decide,” Dr. Hwande alluded.Asked under which party he is contesting, Hwande said “I’m an appointee of the Governor, and if I am an appointee of the governor, I’m working with the governor. I’m with Governor Hyacinth Alia and I’m going to work with Governor Alia. Anywhere you see Governor Alia, Hwande is there.”If I convince him to give me the ticket and he gives me the ticket, the election compared to the performance of those people, I tell you, it’s a walkover. Senator Zam has no investment anywhere in the State but my own investment speaks for myself, “I brought IVF to Benue State. I should have been in Abuja. I brought the same IVF to the Teaching Hospital. So, it’s about productivity.Asked how he would combine running for Senate when he has not finished his assignment as CMD BSUTH, Hwande said “I will finish the work. See, the area where you keep your very best at home, then expect what you get. People are sending their very best out there, you are sending jokers. So, what do you expect? IDPs will protest because they will not have food, they will not have health care.”But if you have solid representation, even our people at the National Assembly alone will bring trucks of rice, they will bring trucks of medicine. Why our people protest is that they don’t have representatives. Everything is on the Governor. They sent you to Abuja to go and bring things and help the governor, then, you turn to his foe, you turn to his enemy. Then you have failed in your constitutional responsibility and the Benue people will take their decision,” Hwande said.
