IGP places Commissioners of Police and Police Personnel on Red-alert

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris, has ordered  a  twenty – four  hour “Crime Prevention and Police visibility Patrol of flash and Vulnerable points in the Country.”

Under the order, Commissioners of Police are to re-gird crime prevention and control strategies in their areas of responsibility  and embark on “Show of Force” exercise and confidence building patrols.


In a statement, Force Public Relations Officers, Jimoh Moshood said at the weekend the IGP has directed all Commissioners of Police to work with community and religious leaders, other stakeholders and public spirited individuals to nip in the bud crimes and criminalities in their areas of resposnibility.

“The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris has ordered all Commissioners of Police in charge of State Commands and their Supervising Assistant Inspectors General of Police and other Police Formations nationwide to be onred-alert with immediate effect to nip in the bud and prevent crimes and criminalities in their States. This directive from the IGP is consequent on the recent ambush attack and killing of seven (7) Policemen at Galadimawa roundabout, FCT, Abuja on the 2nd July, 2018 by armed robbers /bandits.

“The Inspector General of Police promptly on the 3rd July, 2018 set-up a team of Specialized Crack Investigation Detectives, Police Scene of Crime Experts and Technical Intelligence Unit of the Force to investigate the ambush attack and killing of seven (7) Policemen, the investigation team have so far arrested five (5) suspects connected to the killings, however, there is the need to beef-up security throughout the country to enhance and ensure adequate security and protection of lives and properties across the Nation.

“To this end, the Assistant Inspectors General of Police in charge of Zonal commands and Commissioners of Police in State Commands are under strict instruction of the IGP to re-gird their crime prevention and control strategies, and carryout massive deployment of Police personnel and logistics to strengthen security in their AOR and deal decisively with suspected criminal elements. Particular attention is to be placed on places of worship, schools, markets, venues of recreation and other public spaces to forestall any untoward incident. The ongoing raids of criminal hideouts and black spots will be sustained throughout the Country. Show of Force exercise and confidence building patrols will also be embarked upon.

“The Force therefore implores members of the public to cooperate with the Police personnel deployed in their localities,” the statement read in part.
