Ishaku Reiterates Commitment to Old, Young Persons Synergy

Governor of Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku, has said that his government is committed to intergenerational cooperation between old persons and younger ones through recall of some experienced Nurses, Midwives and other related professions into the civil service so that the younger can tap from the experiences of the elderly ones.
Ishaku stated this at the “International Day of Older Persons” organised by the state Ministry of Social Development in Jalingo.
“it is in recognition of the role and contributions of the older persons in our society in all aspects of our existence, that the United Nation in 1990 in its resolution 45/106 set the day to celebrate these icons and Achievers amongst us”.
The who was represented by the Head of Service Mr. Simon Angyu said the ministry has raised fundamental issues on the need for the government to establish Elderly Persons Homes and Recreation centers for older persons to interface with each other as practiced in other state.
Earlier in his remarks the commissioner Ministry of Social Development, Alhaji Musa Karamti says the theme for this year celebration is “ stepping into the future: Taping the talents, contributions and participation of older persons In society”.
He said the theme underscores the link between tapping the talents and contributions of older persons and achieving the implementation of the 2030 Agenda on ageing.
Karamti, emphases on social inclusion hence promoting and strengthening the participation of older persons in all spheres of life be it political, civic, economic, social or cultural, bringing to bear intergenerational cooperation in order to achieve sustainable development.
He said the celebration is intended to create awareness on issues affecting the elderly. lack of respect, care and neglect of the elderly persons by government in their policy formulation and other major stakeholders in the society.
Musa further said the celebration also focuses on the pathway to canvas support for the older persons, according them their basic rights, needs preferences, to recognised and appreciate their contributions to their families, communities, states and the nation at large.
