The Police Command in Lagos State, on Thursday, announced the arrest of six suspects, who allegedly robbed some officials of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in a statement in Lagos.
He said that one of the suspects was killed during a gun battle with the police.
Newsmen reports that some gunmen invaded Mambillah Hotel, Owutu-Ikorodu on May 11, killing the security guard and robbing some JAMB officials and other guests at the hotel.
Hundeyin said that the arrest was made possible by a painstaking, diligent and discreet investigation closely monitored by the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi.
He said that the suspects were traced to their hideout at Oju-irin Abattoir area of the state, where they were eventually arrested.
“The seventh suspect, simply identified as Taye, was neutralised during a gun duel with police.
“Items recovered from the suspects are two locally-made pistols and 11 live cartridges,” he said.
The image maker said that the earlier-arrested supervisor and other staff of the hotel were released after investigations cleared them of culpability.
He said the suspects would be arraigned soon. (NAN)
Motorcyclist Dies in Colleagues’ Clash with Police in Lagos
A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist has lost his life during a clash between commercial motorcyclists and the Police over an accident that occured at Abule-Egba area of Lagos.
The Police spokesman in Lagos State Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident on Tuesday in his verified Twitter handle monitored by the newsmen.
According to Hundeyin, after a minor accident involving a car and a motorcycle occurred on the Abule-Egba Bridge at about 4.
He said that Police arrived at the scene to quell the unrest, but the motorcyclists violently attacked the Policemen.
“We are fully aware of the disturbances in Oko-Oba area of Lagos State. This resulted in the death of one of the riders.
“Normalcy has been restored to the area. The Police in Oko-Oba are fully on ground to forestall any breakdown of law and order,” he said. (NAN)
Armed Forces Neutralise Terrorist Kingpins in 3 Geo-political Zones – NAF Chief
The Nigerian armed forces have neutralised scores of terrorist kingpins in the Northeast, Northwest and North-Central geo-political zones.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, made the claim on Tuesday in Abuja at a stakeholders meeting on “Communicating government policies, programme and activities.
He said operations executed in recent weeks through various airstrikes and ground attacks, yielded results because of effective synergy and collaboration between security agencies.
Amao was represented at the meeting by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director, Public Relations and Information, Nigeria Air Force.
The meeting was organised by the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
“We believe that effective synergy and collaborative efforts with sister services and other security agencies will go a long way in addressing the security threats bedevilling our nation.
“These collaborative efforts between security agencies have no doubt, yielded tremendous results.
“Scores of terrorist kingpins have been neutralised in various airstrikes and ground attacks in the last few weeks in the Northeast, Northwest and North central,’’ he said.
He added that NAF also conducted medical outreaches across the country to strengthen civilian-military relations with the host communities.
About 400,000 people benefitted, he said.
Also speaking at the event, NOA’s Director-General, Dr Garba Abari, urged stakeholders in the security sector to explore civilian-military relations to ensure a safe, secure and peaceful Nigeria.
Abari recalled that in December 2021, NOA, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders held a two-day national summit on “Non-kinetic response to insecurity to complement kinetic efforts to stave insecurity.’’
“Today, we are here to explore areas of synergy aimed at deploying effective non-kinetic strategies to stave insecurity in Nigeria,’’ he said.
According to him, the aim is to instigate conversation that will produce ideas that will add value to the recommendations produced at the national summit.
In his remarks, Mr Chris Ngwodo, the Director-General, Centre for Early Warning, said non-kinetic response to insecurity played a critical role in complementing security operations.
He said that the centre would support the design and implementation of the strategies to achieve the desired results. (NAN)
NSCDC Pledges Adequate Security for Critical National Infrastructure
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Rivers has reiterated its readiness to provide adequate security for Nigeria’s critical infrastructure.
The NSCDC Commandant in the state, Mr Michael Ogar, stated this on Tuesday while addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Ogar was represented by the spokesman of the command, DSC Olufemi Ayodele.
He said that the command would achieve that by trailing and arresting those engaged in bunkering and oil theft in the state.
The commandant said that the command was against illegal bunkering and other forms of economic sabotage that would ruin the nation’s oil and gas sector.
Ogar called for co-operation from members of the public to enable the corps achieve its set goals.
He said that with the synergy of sister agencies, the corps would work to ensure safety of national assets in the oil and gas sector.
Ayodele said that the NSCDC would always map out strategies to fight illegal oil bunkering to safeguard critical national assets.(NAN)
