Kebbi Govt Adopts Asset Tracking, Management Policy

Communities in the state have been urged to maintain and supervise projects executed by government in their area for the overall development of the state and country in general.
Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu made this known, recently, while declaring open a 2-days workshop on Effective Implementation of Assets Tracking and Management System and Creation of Central And Unified Data Base of Assets Register For States, MDAs and Local Governments.
The ceremony was organised by members of the House of Representatives Committee on Governmental Affairs in collaboration with Go-getter Consulting Ltd at Banquet Hall, Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Atiku was represented by the state Deputy Gevernor Alhaji Samaila Yombe Dabai, and explained that, over the years, the public sector as an able and direct providers had ,within its resources, buildup capital assets more than what exist in the private sector.
Dabai, further disclosed that, kebbi state government welcome the initiative of the federal government to establish an assets Tracking and management projects (ATM Projects),in compliance with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
The Governor added that, establishments of ATM projects will enable the federal government to locate, identify, assess and evaluate all its moveable and fixed assets , saying that Kebbi State Government is not averse to the change mantra of the federal government, giving it avenues to increase it’s allocation to capital expenditure.
Series of public financial reforms were empowered to identify more sources of revenues that would guarantee and create more capital assets.
He further stated that, government will continue to support the ministry of finances’ initiative in assets tracking and management at both the state and local government levels, and also called on all heads of MDAs to ensure that any assets illegally withheld by current and former staff should be fully accounted for.
In their separate remarks at the occasion, the Chairman House Committee on Governmental affairs, Dr. Hussaini Suleman Kangiwa, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance , represented at the occasion expressed appreciations on the turnout of participants.
Participants were unanimous that, the training workshop came at the right time and the only path to achieving sounds economic advancement is through human capacity development.
They added that, assets tracking and management projects and the creation of assets register are new initiatives designed to enhance accountability, promote transparency and deepen efficiency with the change agenda of the present administration.
They also commended the efforts of the state government for increased allocation to capital expenditure in the state.
