Kebbi Lawmaker canvasses creation of Cattle colony

Senator representing Kebbi Central Senatorial district, Adamu Aliero has urged the Senate to look into creation of Cattle colony as a way of tackling herdsmen/farmers clashes.

Speaking on the debate on insecurity across the nation on Tuesday, he explained that herdsmen have rights of movement within the provisions of Nigerian Constitution.

"Particularly in section 41 of the 1999 constitution, Fulanis have right to move to any part of the country. They use to come from Mali to Senegal to Chad and move through Nigeria to Central Africa", he said.

"The cattle colony which was suggested by the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh was a good one and it's good we should consider it", he emphasised.

He further explained that there was proliferation of firearms into West Africa with Nigeria suffering the consequences.

"After the collapse of late Muamar Ghaddafi of Lybia, weapons and firearms looted from that country found its way into West Africa and particularly in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial district, Dino Melaye differed in his contribution, saying, cattle rearing remain a personal business, hence, land should not be ceded.

He lampooned at the President for not visiting Benue to commiserate with the victims.
