An indigene of Kogi State, Miss Hassana Ozohu Salisu has won the 2024 Miss Nollywood international beauty pageant.

In a dazzling display of beauty, talent, and empowerment, Miss Salisu was crowned champion after competing against a formidable pool of 18 contestants from across Nigeria.

She emerged victorious as the reigning queen, securing her place among the top nine contestants, five finalists, and four runners-up, with one crown one winner

Salisu, a vibrant representative of the beautiful people of Kogi State, traveled from Abuja to Bayelsa to compete in this prestigious pageant.

Born on November 24, 1998, she is currently an undergraduate at Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic and is making significant strides in her academic and professional endeavors.

Her qualifications include a certificate from the Chartered Institute of Procurement Studies (2021-2023) and a diploma in Filmmaking from Mina Film Academy.

Additionally, she recently completed a certification in Transitional Film Projects from Bournemouth University London in 2023, and is pursuing further education in journalism.

Hassana, the first child in a family of six from the Salisu Ajoges family, embodies not just beauty but a robust commitment to her community and industry. She is the founder of the Sallhassy Empowerment Foundation, which has successfully launched two humanitarian projects over the past years.

The Miss Nollywood International pageant, now in its 11th edition, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious beauty competitions. The event was organized by industry professional and content creator, Mr. Barakumo Odede, a well-respected figure in Bayelsa State known for crowning queens and fostering talent. She is also the chairperson for the northern filmmakers association of Nigeria Abuja chapter

Speaking on this laudable achievement, the Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) of Omedia Nigeria Limited Orits Gee who sponsored Miss Hassana Ozohu Salisu for the beauty pageant competition in Bayelsa State urged Kogites to come out en mars and receive the winner of the 2024 Miss Nollywood international beauty pageant in Kogi State.

He described the emergence of Salisu as historic, expressing optimism that she will make Kogi State and the entire movie industry proud.

According to him, “I wasn’t expecting that she would win even though I knew she would go far because of the numbers of contestants that came out for the competition. Although I knew she is very intelligent, accompanied with her beauty, nevertheless, I was still scared of what the other States have in stock. Surprisingly, she went there and defeated all other contestants.

“This is a plus for Kogi State and coming from the fact that this is the 11th edition as no Kogites have ever won this particular Miss Nollywood international beauty pageant. This is the first time we are having a Kogite winning such a competition.

“We are calling on the Government, Stakeholders, Companies and others who want the betterment of Kogi State to put heads together and let us give her an heroic welcome this week. The victorious homecoming will make her have the feelings that the People of Kogi State are fully behind her.

“In the next one year, I am hoping that she will open an office in Kogi State so that we can have synergy with all the big stars both home and abroad so that She can bring them to our State and further groom our own nollywood actors for them to get to the limelight.

“When you are mentioning big stars that are in Nollywood, Kogi State has few notable ones.  With her being there, we are optimistic that she will do a lot of collaboration with those that have made a name in the industry which will attract much development to Kogi State.

On why his organization supported Salisu for the competition, the film Producer said  “We supported her because of what we saw in her, which is her potential. She is intelligent, good and very fluent in the English language. She is highly educated and has a good heart.

“She has this confidence that she will win because she has what it takes to win the competition. That confidence she was having gave us the zeal to support her achieving her dreams in life.

“Having this knowledge that before now, nobody in Kogi has qualified for the competition is enough to give her all the needed support. From the first to the 10th edition, no Kogites has qualified for such competition and this is the 11th edition. This girl should be celebrated by all of us in Kogi State”.

It was gathered that Omedia Nigeria Limited  has been in the film industry since 2020. They have produced films in Kogi State such as Swept away, My family and the bandit, leaking bag, and many more.

From Ene Asuquo, Calabar

Cocoa allottees in Cross River State’s Abonita Government Estate have demanded immediate withdrawal of soldiers allegedly deployed to the area to intimidate and harass them.

The allotees made demand during an interactive session with journalists at the weekend in Calabar

They called on the Chief of Defense Staff Christopher, Gen.

Musa to withdraw the soldiers giving security to a cocoa merchant in the area by name Mbu Liku

The allotees who include, Joseph Ekong, Pastor Duke Njor, Ekuri Boniface, Nic Ntui,Clement Isong-Amba, Pastor Etta Roland among others alleged that  soldiers had on several occasions assaulted and harassed them.

Nic Ntui, who spoke on behalf of allottees, claimed that the soldiers, reportedly accompanying a cocoa merchant Mbu Liku, have been preventing them from accessing their cocoa  plots which they legitimately paid money into coffers of the state government.

Ntui alleged that armed soldiers usually stormed the estate, chasing them away, intimidating them, allowing Mbu Liku to harvest cocoa.

“There’s already an existing ruling in suit No: HM/73/2020. And Dismissal in Suit No:HC/MSC 24/2024. An action by way of prerogative orders of mandamus and prohibition,” Ntui maintained.

Recall that there are ongoing disputes over land ownership and allocation at the Abonita axis of the estate, with court cases pending in various jurisdictions.

The affected farmers pray that the ongoing investigation by the military high command be thorough so that the officers involved in deployment of errant soldiers into the farms can be fished out.

The Abonita Cocoa Estate has been a point of contention, with the Cross River State government facing challenges in managing the estate.

Meanwhile an update by the state security Adviser (SSA), to Cross River state, retired Maj. Gen. Okoi Obono, after his April 12, 2025 visit to Abonita çocoa estate to ascertain the veracity of claims by the allotees stated that soldiers at Achufa, Ajassor Mission and Etomi check points were those used by Mbu Liku to intimidate allottees.

The Security Adviser’s update sighted by our correspondent recommended that officers detailing  troops to Mbu Liku should be re-deployed and warned, and ensure that soldiers attached to Mbu Liku be withdrawn immediately.

A letter from O. N Agbor & Co Legal Practitioners dated April 4, 2015, signed by S.O Ijeoma Esq, also alledged intimidation, arrest and torture of their clients who are allottees at the Cross River cocoa Estate.
