LG Polls Spark Violent Protests in Plateau

Violent protests broke out in parts of Plateau state Thursday, few minutes after the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC Chairman, Hon. Fabian Ntung announced the result of the local government council elections conducted across 13 out of the 17 LGAs of the state.

The released results showed  11 LGAs  were won by   by the ruling All Progressive Congress(APC)
Violence rocked some parts of the  State especially Bassa LGA where the residence of the Management Commit Chairman Hon. Serah Bali was set on fire, angry youths stombed the Local government secretariat and flush out people in the Council secretariate while in Mangu Local government area the road connecting both Central and Southern zone of the state to Jos was blocked by angry youths who insisted that the voice of the people must be announced.
Ntung made the announcement of winners without scored figures recorded by various candidates on Thursday morning at the PLASIEC Headquarters in the presence of few journalist in Jos the Plateau State capital.
DAILY ASSET in the early hour of Thursday gathered that returning officers in most of the LGAs varnished from various coalition centres at the local government level without collating wards results and transmitting same to the SIEC Headquarters.
Chairman of the electoral empire Ntung while declaring winners of the 11 LGAs said the exercise in Langtang North and Mangu LGAs are inconclusive as a result of ballot box snatching and other electoral irregularities he stated.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rejected the declared result by PLASIEC. The party Chairman, Hon. Damishi Sango said his party the PDP has won in 12 LGA with APC wining only Kanam
He described the result as fraudulent as collation was still on going as at the time of filling this report, yet PLASIEC went ahead to announce the results.
 
Governor Simon Lalong had on Wednesday the 10th October,2018 after casting his vote alongside his wife at the LGEA Primary school Ajikamai maintained that the “The result of the local government council elections is going to be a score mark for me in the last 3 years for the achievement we have done and the cooperation we have received from the people of Plateau State.”
 
Lalong maintained that what his administration has done in the last 3 years in Plateau State is “Showing not only in this exercise today but from my adoption as the soul candidate of the APC.”

However the political violence that rocked some parts of Plateau State has not received any confirmation by any security agencies in the state yet as at the time of filling this report.
