The national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus has warned that any attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led-government to rig the 2019 election to its favour will be an invitation to crisis.
Speaking to mammoth crowd of PDP supporters in Lafia yesterday at the party’s presidential rally for its candidate, Atiku Abubajar, Secondus said, if the APC government loved this country and Nigerians, they should not make attempt to rig the election, but should allow for free, fair and credible election.
He also warned the nation’s electoral empire, Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to not allow themselves be used to rig the people’s mandate, stressing that, the many present attempts to manipulate the exercise are pointers that APC was planning to rig the exercise and bring crisis in Nigeria.
The PDP national chairman challenged the APC and President Buhari to engage the people in public debate to tell Nigerians what they have done in the last four years in office.
Chief Secondus noted that if APC was not planning to rig the 2019 election, why is it that, they are not campaigning and talking to convince the people of their plan and why they should be voted again, he asked.
He faulted the security architecture of the country as poor and unable to address the insecurity problems in the country, and assured that, PDP government would ensure freedom of press, reduce the rate of unemployment, tackle poverty and hunger.
He added that the party would provide platform where every Nigerian would express himself and to speak-up freely on issues of concern without intimidation saying that, God’s willing Nigeria would bounce back to life where challenges confronting the nation would be addressed.
According to Secondus, “I challenge APC to come out and show it achievements in the last four years of governance. They should stop intimidation, harassment and propaganda on the media on achievements that are not visible”, saying that Nigerians are wise to know what they want.
The PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar assured that his government would be for the youth and thatv40% and 30% of the ministerial slots and appointments would go for the youth and women respectively.
He said, doing so was the only way to grooming the youth in particular to take over after his tenure, emphasising that, all things been equal, he would hand over government to a youth.
Atiku who expressed regret working for President Buhari in 2015, said APC was not a party that would provide the right leadership to the people, and lacked ways to govern the country to prosperity, peace and development.
He urged Nigerians to jealously protect their votes to relive the country out from insecurity, hunger, animosity, hatred among Nigerians and division.
The PDP presidential candidate called on Nigerians to resist those who would come their way with tribal and religious sentiments, saying that the crowd witnessed in Lafia, was a clear testimony that they are not only accepted in the state, but that PDP will win the coming election.
While calling for the release of Dino Malaye, he corroborated the views of the PDP National Chairman that, APC was planing to use INEC and security agencies to rig the 2019 election.
The president of the Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki noted that the massive turn out of voters at the rally has made the election simply, indicating that PDP would win all seats in the forthcoming election.
The Senate president lamented that with the APC government, insecurity in the north East, North West and North Central has become alarming, and expressed confidence that the government of Atiku Abubakar would improve on the security challenges of the country to make life easy for all
According to Saraki, the coming election would not be about Buhari, APC or PDP but about what anyone can do, the change they would initiate that would better the life of Nigeria masses.
The mega rally which was unprecedented in the state pulled out PDP supporters from within and outside the state. It had the who is who in the party in attendance in support of Atiku/Obi candidature.
