Dr. Paul Orhii, former NAFDAC DG launches new body to fight counterfeit products and ensure brand protection.

Former Director General, National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administration and Control, NAFCDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii is certainly not tired of the battle against counterfeit drugs and food products which he championed while in charge of the Agency.
Since he left office in February 2016, Dr. Orhii has continued to wage the battle to secure the health of millions of Nigerians in his personal capacity through his new organization-Orhii Brand Secure where he functions as Chief Consultant on Anti-Counterfeiting and Brand Protection.
Through his intervention, NAFDAC recently seized a cache of fake drugs worth over N300million from traders and publicly destroyed same in Onitsha, Anambra State. Orhii said he will continue to avail his services to drug manufacturers and producers of packaged food products across the country to save their brands from faking.
The Russian-trained pharmacologist, physician and bio-medical scientist says he derives great pleasure from waging battle against fake products since he has sufficiently prepared himself for the rigours of this dangerous undertaking.
Dr. Orhii told DAILY ASSET, that he was encouraged by his successes as Director General, NAFDAC to continue with the fight against counterfeit products. According to Orhii, his tenure as Director General, NAFDAC for over seven years provided him the opportunity to exhibit his knowledge about fighting counterfeits.
While holding sway as NAFDAC boss, the Medical Scientist introduced a number of strategies to contain the menace of counterfeit products in the drug and foods industry. Among the many initiatives, He introduced TRUSCAN, “a hand held device used in checking the quality of medicines on the spot.”This initiative which launched NAFDAC on the global scale as the first drug regulator to deploy such technology around the World. He also introduced the use of Mobile Authentication Service to check the quality of medicines before purchase. This innovation empowered the consumers to detect fake drugs in the market with the use of cell phones and thus put the fate of drug consumers squarely in their hands.
In acknowledgment of his expertise, Orhii is highly sought after to offer his professional services which he does alongside the practice of Law having been licensed as Attorney and Counsellor at Law in Texas where he became member of both the Texas Bar and The American Bar Association.
For the Chrono-neuro-psychopharmacologist, the battle against counterfeits is one that must continue if humanity must be spared of the dangers of fake drugs.
“I am not afraid of my personal safety, I am more concerned about the health of innocent Nigerians who are made to consume fake or counterfeit products,” he stressed.
