The Police Force headquarters (NPF) on Monday paraded 27 suspects in connection with alleged murder, Kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of fire arms among other sundry offences in Abuja.
The criminals were arrested in various operations in different states across the country by Police Operatives of the intelligence Response Team(IRT).
Frank Mba, the Force Public Relations Officer, while Parading the suspects at the SARS headquarters, Abuja, said the team seized various weapons, ammunitions and assorted charms from the suspects.
According to him, the recovered weapons from the gang members at the time of their arrests include 6 AK 47 rifles, 3 pump action rifles, 2 Dane guns, 1locally – fabricated pistols, 55 rounds AK47 ammunition, 4 empty magazines, 1 laptop computer, and 1 Toyota corolla car with REG. No. MKD 13 RC. Others include household items ranging from Televisions, Refrigerators, among other items recovered from some of the armed robbery syndicates who specialized in breaking into residential homes within the Federal capital Territory(FCT).
Mba said the IRT in an intense search for the victims and manhunt for the perpetrators by the force, arrested a kidnapping syndicate, which specialized in terrorizing innocent citizens within the North Central geo- political zone of the country.
He said the two suspects, Terhide Tsavbee, ‘m’ 30 years old, and Terkura Gwa, ‘m’ 25yrs old, all from Gawa village, Katsina-Ala local government areas of Benue State were arrested for their involvement and conspiracy in the kidnap of a medical Doctor, Audu Benedict, his Son and a family Friend in Katsina – Ala local government area of the state on March 10,2019.
Terhide Tsavbee, one of the suspects who spoke to DAILY ASSET said : “I kidnapped doctor, friend of that doctor and the child of that doctor and collect money from the family 7 million, the doctor write a cheque and give my oga which is Terna, who gave Terkura Gwa to cash the money from the bank N500, 000. Terna gave me N300,000 out of the money.
” My oga kill the doctor, him friend and child. I don’t know how but they buried them near my oga house” Terhide confirmed.
Mba further explained that the deceased, Dr. Benedict Audu who was ambushed last year by the suspects on his way from Tarkum from Taraba State to Abuja where he was abducted with his son named Eriuno Audu and a family friend, to somewhere in Benue State.
Adding that after reaching out to the family of the victims for N7 million ransom in addition to the N500, 000 cheque issued by the victim while in captivity which brought the total sum to N7.5 million, as pre- condition for their release, the suspects still went ahead and killed the victims.
“Investigations revealed that the criminal gang collected 7.5million naira as ransom from the families of the victims as condition for their release. The suspects forced the late Dr Audu Benedict to issue them a cheque of
N500,000.000 which they cashed in a commercial bank in Gboko town, Benue State. Subsequently, the suspects killed the three (3) victims and had them buried in a shallow grave at Gawa in Katsina-ala LGA of Benue State.
He however, said while efforts are still ongoing to arrest the other suspects at large, the police team is on the verge of exhuming the remains of the slain victims.
Also paraded by the police are 25 other criminal suspects who were involved in various cases ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery as well as illegal possession of prohibited firearms who are currently undergoing investigations.
