The city of Abuja was recently agog for the Queen of the Month beauty pageant which its organisers say is a medium to express concern and campaign against societal ills such as human trafficking, domestic violence, drug abuse, child labour, prostitution amongst others.
Four winners have already been crowned since the event began in January 2017. The latest winners were Miss Zainab Salisu who emerged as Queen of the Month of May and Miss Simbiat Balogun as Queen of the Month of June. Both queens received cash prizes of N100,000 each from the organizers of the event.
A statement issued by the CEO Queen of the Month Ltd Mr. Ayo Owoseni, indicated that the event provides contestants the opportunity to showcase their beauty as well as natural talents.
Besides, the winners as a requirement wrote an article on societal issue of their choice aimed at positively convincing members of the public using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
According to Mr. Owoseni the use of social media by contestants to publish their articles is a conscious attempt to deviate from the negative use of the social media space by some youths in the society. Meanwhile, a website has been opened for prospective contestant to visit.
