The Nigerian military on Saturday said Air component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, killed unknown number of Boko Haram Terrorists, after destroying their structures and logistics supplies at Valangide in the Sambisa Forest general area of Borno State.

In a statement, the Acting Director Defence Media Operations (DDMO) , DHQ, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko said the operation on Friday was executed after persistent intelligence, surveillance and Reconnaissance missions revealed some terrorists to compounds within the settlement where they resided in some well-developed structures in the area.

The Sambisa Forest, sited in the southwestern part of Chad Basin National Park, is about 60 kilometers south east of Maiduguri the capital of Borno State.

Onyeuko said the Operation LAFIYA DOLE scrambled its fighter jets to attack the location of the terrorists, with it bombs hitting the target area and leaving devastating effects on several of the camouflaged structures.

“The jets were vectored to the target by the ISR aircraft, with their munitions making direct hits in the target area, neutralizing some of the BHTs and damaging some of their dwellings, some which were seen engulfed in flames” he said.

According to the DDMO spokesperson, the Armed Forces of Nigeria in its efforts of restoring peace and security in the Northeast would sustain efforts to completely degrade the terrorists in Nigeria’s troubled northeast region.
