Senate inspects prohibited security gadgets allegedly imported by Governor Yahaya Bello
Senate Ad-hoc Committee to investigate Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello over importation of prohibited Security items were being shown those items by Custom officials at Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja on Thursday.
The Committee Chairman, Senator James Manager and others were inspecting those items one after the other.
Senate on Thursday mandated the Committee to ensure that none of the prohibited Security gadgets missed from NAHCO, following a motion by Senator Dino Melaye alleging that the governor imported the gadgets ahead of 2019.
DAILY ASSET on Thursday reported Senate’s proceedings where it was resolved by the lawmakers that the Committee should move swiftly into investigation.
At plenary, it was revealed that the items were imported without end user in the Custom papers; thus making it highly suspicious. However, the Special Adviser, Security to the state governor, Capt. Jerry Omodara claimed ownership, but was refused to clear them.
Senate insisted that such items could not be imported without clearance from the National Security Adviser to the President.
The items are Military camouflage, boots, night goggles, bullet proof vests.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has expressed concern over the State of insecurity in Kogi, while urging politicians to exercise caution.
