Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Sabastian Maimako has decried the high level of power wastages by students of the institution resulting in N14 million a month.
Prof. Maimako disclosed this to journalist during a media briefing marking his one year in office held at the school’s Senate Chamber.
He said “our students consume energy like no other, virtually is like all students are trained electricians. If you go to the students village hostels you will see for yourselves how these students connects everywhere with naked wires.
“In February a lone, we have N14 million as light bill in the students village. If you get there you would see that a student will plug two rings of water heaters to heat his or her water inside a bucket and will allowed it to be boiling while carrying out other activities outside there, sometimes they will just come in and add another water on the already boiled one and allowed it there to continue boiling.
“You will see students living extra large kind of life using mighty electronic gadgets that even a civil servant or business man out there are not using them, this is very disturbing,” Maimako stated.
