Vision 20:2020: Ministry to intensify efforts on STI

The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology said it would intensify efforts to attain macro-economic and social objectives of Vision 20:2020 on science and technology.

Mr Abdulganiyu Aminu, the Head of Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Science and Technology said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Vision 20: 2020 aims at making Nigeria one of the 20 largest economies in the world by year 2020.

”Nigeria will be able to consolidate its leadership role in Africa and establish itself as a significant player in the global economic and political arena” he said

Aminu said the ministry would formulate, monitor and review the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI).

He explained that the acquisition and application of STI would further contribution to the increase in agricultural and livestock productivity.

He revealed that the ministry would accomplish an increase in energy reliance through sustainable research and development in nuclear, renewable and alternative energy sources.

“It will also promote wealth creation by supporting industrial and manufacturing sectors; creation of technology infrastructure and knowledge-base development.

“ FMST will strengthen application of natural medicine resources and technologies for health sector development and application of space science and technology as a key driver of economic development,“ he said.
