22,160kg Codeine, Meth, Others Seized in Lagos Seaport, City Raids

Operatives of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency have seized over 22,160 kilograms of Codeine syrup, Methamphetamine and Skunk at Apapa seaport and in a notorious drug den, Akala, Mushin, Lagos in two major operations in Lagos State.
The Director, Media and Publicity, NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Mr Femi Babafemi made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday.
He said that the operatives of the agency also seized 14,08kg codeine syrup of 8,080 liters and 4,352.
43kg cold caps from the drug dealers.According to him, the gold caps which were used to conceal the drugs in a 40ft container imported from India, were intercepted on Wednesday February 2, 2022 at the Apapa port.
Babafemi said further that large quantity cannabis/loud/skunk imported from Ghana and Methamphetamine weighing 3,727.72kg were seized in an early morning raid at Akala, Mushin where 17 suspects including five females were arrested on Thursday, February 3.
He said that the NDLEA seizures at the Lagos seaport were in response to intelligence from foreign partners and cooperation of other port stakeholders.
He stated further that NDLEA Strike Force operatives put up concerted efforts with the military to storm, fortified warehouses in Akala, Mushin, a deadly drug den and evacuated bags and bottles of cannabis, loud, skunk, skuchies and methamphetamine.
He stated further that the NDLEA’s dragnet caught a big female drug kingpin, Mrs. Jemilat Seriki, the owner of 12,385 pellets of Loud imported from Ghana and intercepted at Eko Atlantic beach, Victoria Island Lagos on Saturday 27th November2021, after weeks of manhunt.
He said that the suspect, Mrs. Seriki, a.k.a Iya Ilorin, admitted being one the owners of the consignments seized, adding that her bags of drugs had ‘Jah Bless’ written on them. He said that when eventually identified and sorted, she has 16 bags with the inscription containing drugs weighing 668.85kg.
Babafemi stated further that a 64-year-old former Divisional Police Officer of Idanre Police station, Ondo state, who was dismissed from service for drug related offences, Mr. Monday George Chika, was again been arrested with an accomplice, Emmanuel Eniola, 40, with 280 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 168kg in Niger State.
He said that the duo were arrested on Sunday Jan. 30thin Mokwa, Niger State, when their Toyota Avalon car marked EKY 429 BZ (Lagos) loaded with the substance at Idanre and heading to Kanji, Borgu area of the state was intercepted.
“At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos, attempts by some traffickers to export different quantities of Methamphetamine to Brazil and United Kingdom were scuttled by narcotic officers at the airport.
“The first bid was made on Friday 28th Jan. through the SAHCO export shed where operatives intercepted 0.80kg of Meth concealed in relaxer plasticcontainer heading to the UK. A suspect, Akuta Chioma Lucy who presented the consignment for search had been arrested for further investigation.
“The second attempt was on Friday February 4 during the outward clearance of passengers at Gate ‘C’ Departure hall of the airport when an intending male passenger on Ethiopian Airline going to Brazil, Onyeaghala Chidi was intercepted with 500grams of Meth concealed inside three plastic hair relaxer containers.
“Also at the airport, a male passenger, Iliyasu Yushau Yushau, coming from Kampala, Uganda via Nairobi, Kenya was intercepted by operatives with 268 debit cards belonging to Access Bank, GTBank and Zenith Bank, during the inward clearance of passengers on the flight on Sunday, January 30.”
Babafemi stated further that
operatives stormed the Igbogiri Forest, Orhionwon LGA, Edo State on February 4, and destroyed four dry season cannabis farms measuring 3.067718 hectares.
The operatives also carried out evacuation of 20 bags of compressed blocks of cannabis weighing 269.5kg stored in a bush at Uzebba, Owan West LGA, the previous day and arrested one Afadama James, 42, with 348kg cannabis at Owan, Ovia North East LGA on Wednesday, February 3.
He said that a 21-year-old student of Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Kate Osagie was arrested for being in possession of over a 17.6grams designer drug she ordered from Onitsha, Anambra state.
The NDLEA Media Director added that operatives nabbed one Fatima Musa, 30, for attempting to smuggle pentazocine injections into the camp of surrendered insurgents in February 3, in Borno State
Babafemi said that the operatives intercepted a truck marked LSD857XB coming from Ekpoma, Edo State with 885 blocks of cannabis sativa that weighed 736kg.
He said that similar arrests were made in Kwarra and Abuja where large quantities of drugs were seized.
Babafemi quoted the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) to have “commended officers and men of the Strike Force, Apapa seaport, MMIA, Lagos, Niger, Edo, Borno, Plateau, Kwara, FCT and Delta Commands of the Agency for the successful interdiction operations that led to the seizure of thousands of kilograms of illicit drugs from across the country in the past week. He charged them and their compatriots in other commands not to rest on their oars.”

Woman, 31, Docked Over Alleged Theft of iPhone Worth N500,000

A 31-year-old woman, Opeyemi Bakare, on Tuesday appeared before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an iPhone valued at N500,000.
Bakare, of undisclosed address, was charged with two counts of conspiracy and stealing .
The prosecutor, Insp Iyabo Oladoyin, told the court that the defendant and others at large conspired and committed the offences on May 2 at 3.
30 p. m. in the Dugbe area of Ibadan.According to Oladoyin, the defendant stole an iPhone 12 valued at N505,000, belonging to the complainant, Mr Oluseyi Oba.
The prosecutor said the phone was stolen in Dugbe Market and was tracked to the defendant.
She said the offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs T.G. Daodu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum.
Daodu thereafter adjourned the case until July 8 for hearing. (NAN)

Prostitute Docked for Allegedly Stabbing Her Colleague

A 40 – year old prostitute, Adeosun Adepeju was on Tuesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stabbing her colleague in the stomach during work period.
Adepeju of undisclosed address was standing trial on a count charge bordering on assault.
She pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Cpl.
Helen Ojo told the court that Adepeju on May 21, at about 12:30 a.m., at Ring road area, Ibadan, stabbed her colleague, Stella Mago with scissors in her stomach.Ojo said that the stabbing caused the complainant bodily harm.
She added that the offence contravened Section 335 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs M. M. Olagbenro admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Olagbenro adjourned the matter until May 30, for hearing. (NAN)

Man, 56, Bags Life Jail Term for Defiling His Stepdaughter

A High Court sitting in Ado-EKiti on Monday sentenced one Jayeoba Oluwafemi, 56, to life imprison for defiling his 14 year old stepdaughter.
The 56 year old convict was arraigned before Justice Adekunle Adeleye on Dec. 4, 2020 on one count charge of defilement.
The charge reads that the defendant on Oct.
26, 2020 at Ado Ekiti defiled a fourteen year old girl (names withheld), which is contrary to Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Right Law, Cap. C7, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.The victim’s testimony before the Court said, “my mother got married to the defendant, we were not living together but he used to sleep in our house especially when my mother was not at home or travelled.“ On Oct. 26, 2020, my mother travelled to Lagos and the defendant slept in our house, at midnight he forcefully had sex with me and thereafter, blood was gushing out of my virgina. I called my mother the following morning to inform her but the defendant denied.“ He continued this act anytime my mother was not around, I used to tell my mother on her arrival but she did nothing about it.When he noticed that I was telling my mother about his continuous sexual activity with me, he started threatening me.
“ One day, he wanted to beat me and I ran out of the house, I met one woman on the road, I told her what happened and she directed me to the governor’s office to lodge official complain which led to his arrest,” she concluded.
To prove his case, the Prosecutor, Julius Ajibare called six witnesses and tendered the defendant’s statement and medical report as exhibits.
The defendant was also represented by his defense counsel, Oladele Adedeji who called one witness.
In his judgment, Justice Adekunle Adeleye said, “ I am of the humble view that the sexual intercourse sessions were on several occasions, it was not a one off affair.
“ And upon careful analysis of the entire circumstance of this case, the change in story or outright denial by the defendant is an afterthought.
“ The prosecution has established the offence of defilement against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt. He is accordingly found guilty as charged and hereby sentenced to life imprison as provided for under the provisions of Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap. C7, Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
