The Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) has lauded the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her steadfast commitment to women empowerment.

The National President of NAOWA, Mariya Lagbaja, gave the commendation on Wednesday during a brief remark while declaring open a two-day Mindset and Life Transformation Training Programme for NAOWA members in Enugu State.

Lagbaja, who is the wife of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja noted that Her Excellency’s steadfast commitment to women’s empowerment nationwide continues to inspire NAOWA to do more for women socio-economic uplift.

According to her, “We (NAOWA members) are deeply grateful for her guidance and support”.

Lagbaja noted that as NAOWA president, she noticed unique challenges faced by NAOWA members, which include the demands of being army wives, frequent relocations due to our husbands’ posting and the struggle to find personal fulfillment among others.

“Addressing these challenges requires more than material solutions. It calls for a transformation from within.

“This is why the Mindset and Life Transformation Training Programme was designed, to equip NAOWA members with the tools to reshape their thinking, build confidence and develop both personally and professionally.

“Through this initiative, we aim to empower you to redefine your purpose, strengthen relationships and contribute positively to your families, our association and society.

“Over the next two days, we will explore how our mindset shapes our reality and how positive thinking can drive success,” she said.

The NAOWA president said that the training would make members gain valuable insights into financial independence, leadership and self-development, while acquiring practical skills to unlock new opportunities for growth.

“Our goal is to build a community of confident and purpose-driven individuals who contribute meaningfully to their families, NAOWA and broader society.

“I encourage each of you to fully engage with the facilitators, absorb the knowledge provided and apply these lessons to your daily life,” she added.

Lagbaja challenged them to make positive impacts in their homes and society as well as build a supportive community even as they “put in their dedication to the noble association – NAOWA.”

The training is part of the five-day working maiden visit of the NAOWA President to 82 Division Chapter of the association and commissioning of some NAOWA projects and initiatives.

The projects the NAOWA President inaugurated on Tuesday included: NAOWA College, Enugu and Abakpa Military Cantonment Pre-School (Akara School) Complex.

She distributed 1,000 bags of rice and five-litre groundnut oil to residents of the cantonment and 100 bags of rice and five-litre of groundnut oil to 100 teaching and non-teaching staff of NAOWA Group of Schools, Enugu.

The NAOWA boss also donated 100 maternal and baby care kits to pregnant women and nursing mothers and showed twins delivered at about 2p.m. (on Tuesday) at the 82 Division Medical Services and Hospital, Enugu with gifts and prayers.

The Abia Government says it has put measures in place to address the concerns raised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), to avert impending strike in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Okey Kanu, made this known on Tuesday during a press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council in Umuahia.

The NUT, had in a press statement signed by its leadership, directed its members to proceed with an indefinite strike on Thursday over its unmet demands by the government.

Daily Asset recalls that issues raised by the Union include non-implementation of the Teachers Salary Structure,  65 years retirement age and 40 elongation of service policy for teachers, among others.

The Commissioner said that a section of teachers had expressed dissatisfaction, particularly over salary differentials between primary school teachers and their counterparts in junior secondary schools.

He described the situation as being “blown out of proportion,” attributing the online agitation over the development to the opposition, who were seeking to politicise the issue.

Kanu said that the current administration consistently showed commitment to the welfare of Abia workers and pensioners.

“Salaries are being paid regularly, and Abia remains one of the first states to implement the N70,000 minimum wage,” he said.

He said that the government deliberately designed policies to incentivise teachers who had left the classroom and moved to the ministry during the previous administration due to unpaid salaries.

“The government introduced compensation packages to encourage them to return to teaching,” Kanu noted.

He further said that the state had also increased the retirement age for teachers from 60 years to 65 years as part of broader reforms to revitalise the education sector.

“The accusations that the government is neglecting teachers’ welfare are unfounded.

“This is a problem-solving administration focused on policies that uplift our workers,” Kanu said.

He disclosed that the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education was already engaging with the leadership of the union to resolve any lingering issues.

Kanu reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring a stable, motivated, and well-supported teaching workforce across the state.(NAN)
