New Road has Changed Our Lives – Gwagalada Residents

By Laide Akinboade, Abuja
The residents of Gwagwalada have commended the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), for the construction of once a stretch of neglected roads.
The residents of Gwagalada and Paikon-Kore stated this while speaking to journalists.
They said the once difficult access has now become a symbol of safety, economic empowerment and a brighter future for residents.
At the center of this progress is the Paikon-kore–Ibua Road, a 9-kilometer stretch featuring 17 culverts, including major crossings. The newly constructed bridge, a crucial part of this road, has especially benefited school children and traders, allowing them to safely cross even during the rainy season.
He added, “The transformation of Gwagwalada began when Barr Nyesom Wike assumed office as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). His vision, aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, has turned Gwagwalada into a thriving hub, once again connected to the broader city through smooth, reliable roads”.
“The roads are not just infrastructure; they are lifelines for our community,” said Umar Faruk Abubakar, a stakeholder from the Palace of His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Magaji. “We thank God for giving us a working minister. We pray for Wike’s continued strength to complete ongoing projects.”
The newly paved roads have also provided a boost to local businesses. Traders like Charles Eyo, Essential Charles Interior are seeing resurgence in their markets. “For years, I paid rent without making a profit because customers couldn’t reach us,” Ayo said. “Now, business is booming, and the market is alive again.”
Others like shop owner Ode Nekodemos, echoed similar sentiments. “The road was once filled with dust, scaring away customers. Today, it’s perfect, and our market is thriving,” he explained.
Contractors working on the road projects, including Setraco Nigeria Ltd. and Okmas Nigeria Ltd., have also praised the FCT administration’s commitment to timely funding and local empowerment. Seneca Rupanetti, Senior Project Manager at Setraco, highlighted the efficiency of the project, noting the minister’s proactive approach in ensuring timely completion.
For the residents and traders of Gwagwalada, the new roads are more than just physical infrastructure; they are symbols of renewed hope and progress. Monday Omoike, a trader, summed up the sentiments of the community: “This administration is working. The roads have brought customers back and changed our lives. It’s a new dawn for Gwagwalada.”
Under Wike’s leadership, the ongoing transformation of Gwagwalada serves as a testament to the power of visionary leadership and collaborative effort. As the region continues to grow, the ripple effects of these projects will be felt for generations, creating opportunities, fostering economic growth, and improving the lives of those who call Gwagwalada home.
