The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Alkali Baba, has commissioned 50 security vehicles and 200 special security motorcycles as part of efforts by the Plateau State government in addressing insecurity menace in the state.

The IGP, who applauded the state government for taking deliberate steps towards arresting the security challenges confronting the state and the country with some logistics amongst other things.

Hinting that more personnels are going to be employed into the Nigeria Police Force in the country, Baba maintained that the acquisition of vehicles and provision of other logistics requirements for the police and other security agencies is a welcome development, especially now.

“I want to assure you that more police personnel will soon be recruited to boost the manpower of the force while the training of the personnel is also being accorded serious attention,” h stated.

The Plateau State Governor Barrister Simon Lalong has expressed optimism that there won’t be any hiding place again for criminal elements in the State with the Commissioning of 50 security vehicles as well as 200 motorcycles.

He disclosed that the state has initiated the Security Surveillance Centre at Dutse Uku, Jos-Jarawa.

“The facility has nine offices; a dialogue and conference hall; Information Technology Infrastructure with CCTV Platform; Dome Camera with 1.5 kilometre range that gives day and night visuals of one thousand five hundred metre perimeter; and a solar powered inverter that can provide power for about 12 hours a day.  Work is ongoing on the next one in Bauchi Road which we hope to commission soon.

“Plateau State was among the first States which adopted the Community Policing Initiative after a thorough engagement with key stakeholders who agreed with Government that grassroots approach to security is the best way to stop crimes and identify criminals. Consequently, we trained and deployed 529 Community Police Constables to the 17 Local Governments of the State.”

Lalong stressed that the rescue administration has continued to hold engagement with Community Watch Groups by bringing them under one umbrella for proper coordination and monitoring.

“This has given birth to the Plateau State Joint Civilian Operatives who are today being unveiled. They are to boost intelligence gathering and also support the security agencies as the need arises. In all, we have about 3,000 from the 17 Local Government Areas,” who were unveiled yesterday by the IGP.

The Chairman of Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs as well as the Gbong Gwom Jos. Da Jacob Gyang Buba expressed gratitude for the huge investment made in support of the security agencies in the state.

The Royal Father assured the readiness of the traditional Institutions in the state to continue to give their maximum support to all security agencies by mobilising their subjects to gather intelligence for appropriate actions.
