Lagos Set to Unveil School Sports Initiative
As part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s investments in young residents, the state is set to launch the Lagos State School Sports Intervention programme (LASSIP).
The Director of Public Relations, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Titi Oshodi-Eko said that the launch would help to reinvigorate school sports system.
Oshodi-Eko said that LSSC would flag-off the pilot edition of the LASSIP at the Indoor – Sports Hall, Molade Okoya – Thomas Sports Complex, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, on July 29, at 10.
00a.m.She said it would be done in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Six Education Districts in the state.
The Executive Chairman, LSSC, Sola Aiyepeku said the commission had commenced the training of 600 school sports masters physical education teachers across Lagos as a first step in the deployment of LASSIP.
“We conceived LASSIP because we had noticed the lacuna in school sports in Lagos as we wanted to fully reintegrate sports back into schools in Lagos.
“Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the biggest supporter of LASSIP, he is at the forefront of any platform that develops young Lagos residents.
“He has fully bought into this and has provided all the resources necessary to make this intervention successful.
We are delighted that the Ministry of Education have been great partners on this and we all excited for the opportunities LASSIP will unleash for young Lagos residents and the state in general,” he said.
The LSSC boss added that the state-wide training programme was the first of its kind in Nigeria and it was fundamental to achieve the full potential of LASSIP.
“We have designed a training module which will be field and classroom based and games masters are the resources we need to deploy these training in schools.
“The modules are based on the latest advances in school sports, it is imperative that we train game masters so that they can effectively deploy this training to students in schools.
“This is why our partnership with the ministry of education is very important,” Aiyepeku said.
LASSIP is a wide reaching intervention programme designed by LSSC in partnerships with the ministry of sports to reintegrate sports back to the Lagos State school curriculum.
The programme is part of a broad vision to leverage sports to promote physical fitness and wellness, offer alternative career paths to young people and create a sustainable pipeline of talent discovery and development.(NAN)

Morocco 2025: Super Eagles can Beat any Team, Eguavoen Boasts
The interim coach of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, said his team can beat any team with the quality of players in the team.
Eguavoen stated this after his team spanked the Cheetahs of Benin Republic 4-0 in the 2025 African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) at the Godswill Akpabio stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Saturday.
“We have quality players to beat any team but we respect team anyway.
Any coach can come in and do the same job with the Super Eagles.“It is a mindset, we have the potential and how you perceived your opponent, given the information about them and then go out and do the job,“he said.
Equavoen attributed the victory to the formation adopted by the technical crew, adding that any formation could be used to ensure that the team was successful.
“We can decide to use any system. It is something we discussed and I slept over it. I know with the caliber of players that we have, we can decide to play any formation.
“Football is about you win, lose and draw, I don’t believe we have a poor result,” he said.
He, however, said that the former Super Eagles coach didn’t do a good job but it has to do with believe, what is at stake and what you want to achieve.
“Psychologically as a group, we are agreed, where we are and where we are going to be. We will definitely achieve it,” Equavoen said.
He commended the performance of the defence , describing it as superb, adding that the team had been training together for one week.
The coach said that asking six players to warm up for the second half was to buy time, adding that there was no need to rush to change.
He said the Cheetahs of Benin Republic were a good team, adding that they came with a good game plan.
Report says that Eguavoen was appointed interim coach after the deal between the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) and coach Bruno Labbadia failed.
NFF explained in a statement that it failed due to the stringent regulations of German tax authorities.(NAN)
