Wike’s Visit: Expect More Top Politicians to Join APC– Ganduje
By Jude Opara, Abuja
National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje has continued to generate reactions.
National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC ) Dr Abdulahi Ganduje has said the recent visit to the party’s national secretariat by former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike was an indication that more prominent politicians would soon join the party.
Ganduje who spoke on Wednesday, however, clarified that his meeting with Wike did not dwell on his much anticipated dumping of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He said he was certain that apart from Wike, other notable politicians and even political parties will soon join the ruling party.
Ganduje said Wike who is a ministerial nominee of the present administration was in his house to congratulate him on his emergence as the National Chairman of the APC.
“You know Wike is a honourable Minister designate so he came, we discussed because I was looking for him to congratulate him for that and also he came to congratulate me and we discussed that when he becomes minister fully he will work very hard in order to move the ministry he is given forward and that he is ready to cooperate with the administration.
“But we didn’t discuss the issue of his coming to APC or not coming to APC. That issue will arise later. One of the promises we made on assumption is to ensure that the population of this party will increase.
“Having Wike in the party will certainly improve the chances of this Party, especially in 2027 and not only that we are coming out with a new blueprint to increase the followership of the party and this will include all strata of officials; those who are in APC and those who are in other political parties.
“ I assure you, very soon some of the political parties will even merge with the APC. We are doing that underground”.
The former governor of Kano State further stated that the appointment of Wike was in the spirit of the proposed Government of National Unity (GNU).
“But the spirit of national unity does not mean the spirit of one party in Nigeria. Spirit of national unity means spirit of national competence and spirit of national capacity and I want to tell you that Wike was appointed more due to his competence and capacity”.
Meanwhile, another ministerial nominee and the immediate past governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong equally visited the National Chairman.
In a chat with newsmen shortly after the meeting, Lalong said he came to congratulate Ganduje because he was not around during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.
He added that Ganduje is indeed the right man for the job given the fact that he is the most experienced after serving in various managerial capacities before becoming the governor of Kano state.
“At the time we finished national caucus and then NEC meeting I was not around so now that I am around I need to formally come and congratulate him (Ganduje) and see what efforts we can do to keeping him moving in running the party.
“As the National Chairman, Ganduje was Governor, as the matter of fact when we look at his antecedents we always say he is the longest experienced politician that we have within us. Because he is somebody who was very long in Civil Service, he became Permanent Secretary, Commissioner, longest serving Deputy Governor and became Governor. So with this kind of experience what else do you need in party matters. So we have confidence in him as he is now here and it is not an issue of one man, anytime he has opportunity he does a lot of consultation and we are always available. His colleagues who were Governors with him are always available for this kind of work. That is why we are rallying around to give him every help so that the party can also succeed” he stated
