Police Joint Task Force Vows to Go After Criminals in Benue, Rescue 50-Year-old Victim

From Attah Ede, Makurdi
A joint police task force code named operation Zenda in Benue State, has vowed to go after criminal gangs terrorising innocent people of the state, saying they have rescued a 50-year-old kidnap victim at Tine-Tu, Zaki Biam, in the Ukum Local Government Area of the state.
The Commander of the joint operation Zenda, SP Felix Nomiyugh, stated this when members of the correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NU) Benue State Council paid him a courtesy call at the operation headquarters in Makurdi, Tuesday.
SP Nomiyugh said his men last Saturday got informed about a man being kidnapped by some criminal gangs in ukum LGA and quickly swung into action and rescued the man.
“The criminals got wind of us going after them and hurriedly abandoned their victim.
“In fact, we meant the victim in a coma after he was abandoned. We later took the old man to the General Hospital, Zaki-Biam, where he was treated and revived.
“Let me tell you that I assumed office on November 1, 2023 and since then, the operation has recorded a lot of achievements, especially in the release of many abducted victims”.
He promised to work harder towards a crime-free society, maintaining that he had embarked on a policy of discipline amongst officers in his command.
He said, “Last Saturday, at Tine Nine in Zaki Biam, headquarters of Ukum LGA, our officers recovered a 50-year-old man who happened to be a kidnap victim. He was abandoned by his assailants and was in a coma.
“Luckily, he was taken to the General Hospital in Zaki Biam where he regained consciousness.
“The command is working hard to sensitise and reorient our officers. We want to be polite and neat.
Earlier, in his address, the chairman of correspondents chapel of NUJ, Benue State Council, Mr. Emmanuel Antsewen, said they were in the office to familiarise themselves with men and officers of the joint task force and seek ways to propagate the activities of operation Zenda.
Mr. Antsewen commended SP Nomiyugh for the achievements recorded so far in the area of rescuing abducted victims.
“We are here today to familiarise ourselves with you and to see how we can partner to promote peace and security in the state.
“We are sincerely aware of your efforts in fighting crimes in the State. We have to come here to encourage you and also tell you to count on us in information gathering and sharing.
“Correspondents’ members are adequately prepared to give maximum reportage to activities in the State. Always count on our support at all times”, the chairman stated.
He commended the State commissioner of police CP Emmanuel Adesina for his efforts towards ridding the State out of criminality.

Trump Tells Iran to Make Nuclear Deal ‘Before it is too Late’

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Iran to conclude an agreement with Washington on its controversial nuclear programme, amid a series of Israeli strikes on nuclear facilities and military leaders.
“There is still time to make this slaughter come to an end,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday.
“Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire,” Trump continued.
“JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”Observers consider it unlikely that Iran’s leadership would opt for a diplomatic approach in light of the Israeli attacks.
Israeli media reported that Tehran had retaliated with an attack involving about 100 drones, all of which were shot down.
“I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal,” Trump wrote.
“The U.S. makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come and they know how to use it,” Trump wrote. (dpa/NAN)
