From Jude Dangwam, Jos

The Plateau State Government has launched a manhunt for the self acclaimed ‘Emir’, one Alhaji Samaila Abdullahi, Sarkin Kerana 4th in Bukuru area of Jos South Local Government Area of the State, who’s installation was slated forAugust 1, 2020.

Security officials are also in hot chase for all operators of the “Bukuru Emirate Council” in the State.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dan Manjang assured citizens that “Security agencies are currently tracking those behind this mischief and will bring them to book immediately they are apprehended.

Manjang who spoke to Newsmen in Jos said the purported invitation for the installation was clearly the handwork of mischief makers and crisis merchants who were determined to instigate crisis and generate a breach of the prevailing peace in the State.

The Commissioner pointed that “the Government of Plateau State views this action as another desperate attempt by enemies of the State to make nonsense of the effort of His Excellency Governor Simon Bako Lalong, which has succeeded in reuniting the people and engendering peaceful coexistence in the last five years.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Government will not fold its arms to allow such mischief makers tamper with the peace of Jos South Local Government and the entire State by inciting people against one another, ” he stated.

The House of Representatives Member for Jos-South/Jos-East Federal Constituency in the National Assembly Abuja. Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos had earlier on expressed concerned that as  representative of his [people, he was not aware of the existence of such an Emirate within his constituency and viewed the action as a needless provocation by people.

“This is highly condemnable and capable of offending the delicate and fragile atmosphere of peace, not only in Jos South but the entire state. By its literary meaning, “an emirate is a political territory that is ruled by an Arabic or Islamic monarch-styled emir, which does not exist anywhere in Jos South,” he noted.

He said the organisers should be reminded of the fact that there was a recognised Traditional Institution; The Jos South Traditional Council under the leadership of Da Nga Dangyang, the Gwom Rwei of Gyel.

The Lawmaker stressed that “In view of the frantic calls and agitation from the peace loving constituents of Jos South, I wish to call on all security agencies and the Plateau State Government to take immediate steps in calling the organisers to order so as to forestal any breach of peace that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in light of this brazen affront on the tradition, customs and ancestral heritage of the people.”

He called on his constituents to remain calm but be vigilant and report any group or individuals planning to bring disharmony by provoking a breakdown of law and order.

“Those behind this mischievous act should reconsider their decision and recognize that peace and harmony can only be maintained when all respect the traditions, ancestry and laid down institutions of the people, he advised.”

Meanwhile the Management Committee Chairman of Jos South Local Government Council. Hon. Dachung  Choji in a swift public announcement pointed that the malicious publication on a purported invitation letter making round for the turbanning ceremony of a Sarkin Kerana the 4th by some faceless group of persons in the name of Bukuru Emirate Council is a deliberate attempt to raised the ember of violence in the LGA.

He said, “Council considers the action of the said persons or group as not only illegal but a deliberate attempt to test the will of the government and to truncate the peace and tranquility the people have been enjoying so far.”

Choji stressed that they will do everything possible to unmasked the operators of the said “Bukuru Emirate Council.”

“The relevant security agencies have been adequately directed to unmask those behind the publication for possible prosecution. Council wishes to state categorically clear that there is nothing like emirate council in Jos South local government area and consequently enjoins citizens to disregard the said fake and malicious publication and go about their lawful business without fear or intimidation.”
