Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nkerefi Ward 1 and 2 in Nkanu East LGA of Enugu State have reiterated their loyalty and commitment to the Gov. Peter Mbah administration, pledging support for Mbah’s efforts to reposition the state.

This was even as the former Secretary to the State Government, Dr Gabriel Ajah, as well as other party stalwarts expressed confidence in the governor’s capacity to positively change the living standard of the people.

They made these known during PDP’s Ward meeting in Nkerefi that attracted hundreds of party faithful at weekend.

They equally extolled the governor for his excellent performance in the areas of infrastructure, education, employment, security and improvement on the economic fortune of the people.

Speaking at Imeoha-Nkerefi, a former councillor of the ward, Praise Anyim, said the governor had given women in the community a sense of inclusiveness in the governance process through some of his empowerment programmes.

The empowerment, she said, was dedicated to helping women, especially rural dwellers, to escape the entrapment of poverty.

She noted that key appointments in the administration were given to women as a way of encouraging gender equality and socio-economic empowerment in the state.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Publication, Josh Ejeh, lauded the governor for ensuring that Nkerefi was carried along in the administration’s development projects.

He stressed that, aside from the appointment of Nkerefi people into the government, the governor had also ensured that the people, made up of four autonomous communities and two electoral wards, benefit from the landmark projects going on across the state.

According to him, the Mbah administration had brought two smart schools to the people and a pair of modern Type-2 Primary Healthcare hospitals, which were still under construction.

Ejeh said that the Smart School at ward 2 was over 70 per cent complete, while the Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centre at ward 1 was also on the verge of completion.

While enjoining the people to remain committed to the policies of the administration, he observed that security of lives and property had dramatically improved across the state, enabling the people to go back to their farmlands without molestation.

“With the improved security architecture in the state, we can always go about our normal businesses. He was able to eliminate every subversive threat through his strategic actions.

“It’s now a new dawn for the people of Nkerefi with the coming of Governor Peter Mbah into power. It will interest you to know that Nkerefi indigenes made it into the administration in the first set of appointments the governor made on assumption of office.

“In subsequent appointments, Nkerefi were also considered. This shows that the governor loves us, and we must reciprocate the love by supporting all his policies and programmes,” he added.

On his part, Ajah explained that the administration had given Nkerefi reasons to celebrate in terms of giving them a sense of belonging, noting that Nkerefi would be transformed into a modern town in the coming years of the governor.

Ajah, who urged the people to remain steadfast in their unwavering support for the governor, said he was glad Mbah gave him the opportunity to serve in his administration.

He said the people of Nkerefi were ready to give everything required for the success of the administration.

Anih Jacob, PDP chairman in ward 1, while addressing party supporters, hailed the governor for the prompt response he gave to the collapsed Nkerefi Bridge by restoring it back to a good state.

“The remedial intervention of the governor saved our people because we could have been handicapped. This shows that the governor is a listening and compassionate leader, who feels the pulse of his people,” he said.

A former administrator from the ward, Hon Cornelius Edeh, said Mbah’s leadership could be described as a light for the Nkerefi people even as he maintained that Nkerefi would keep giving maximum support to the administration.

Tinubu Committed to Improving Welfare of Senior Citizens –Alake

Dr Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, has restated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improve the welfare of senior citizens in the country.

Alake said this in an interview in Ikoro-Ekiti, his country home.

According to the minister, Tinubu is determined to accord dignity to senior citizens by giving them a new lease of life in line with his Renewed Hope Mantra.

Alake said that senior citizens had been adequately factored in all the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

Report says that Alake had on Saturday, distributed 1,200 bags of rice to the elderly in Ekiti, irrespective of the political party they belonged to.

He thanked the president for listening to the people and demonstrating a caring heart, noting “1,200 bags of rice was made available to me and each minister to further supplement the established channels of distribution.

“We need to reach out to our aged fathers and mothers at times like this to demonstrate the Omoluabi values of taking care of the old in the community.

“In the spirit of inclusion, it is important that we channel this intervention to mainly elderly citizens.

” This is because they do not have the strength to compete for welfare goods such as these at the established centres. We have taken their inventory and we are delivering to them.

“Subsequent interventions will target other segments of the populace, such as widows, orphans, persons living with disabilities and students in higher institutions of learning,” he said.

The minister said that the onus was on the people to care for the elderly by focusing on issues affecting them, adding that every individual would grow old and require the support of the younger generation at some point in life.

“This is a bold step in re-writing our history as a people and changing the undesirable narrative of our lack of desire to adequately take care of our elderly population.

“Those of you that are very familiar with me can attest to the fact that at every opportunity, especially at events like this.

“I have always canvassed that nowhere in the world can government alone meet the needs of its citizens.

“Hence, the need to encourage partnership with high networth individuals, corporate organisations and non-governmental agencies to ensure the welfare of the citizens,” he said.

Alake enjoined all public spirited Ekiti people to lend a hand to the needy, adding that all hands must be on deck to support efforts to rid the state of hunger and poverty. NAN)
