The Borno Government has successfully distributed food and relief materials to 63,000 victims of recent floods in Ngala Local Government Area (LGA).

The distribution targeted Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and members of host communities severely affected by the disaster.
The relief items, donated by the Federal Government, included essential food grains such as maize, sorghum, and millet, alongside cash assistance.
The Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Mohammad Barkindo, who supervised the week-long exercise, said that vulnerable households were prioritised.
Barkindo commended Gov. Babagan Zulum for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian efforts and expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for its timely intervention.
“This town has been completely cut off from the rest of the state for about four months due to heavy rainfall and flooding.“The movement of food and essential items to Ngala had been severely disrupted. This intervention aims to alleviate the hardship faced by the people in this LGA,” Barkindo said.Report says that on Nov. 25, Zulum, visited Ngala Local Government Area to assess the severe damage caused by flooding in the region.Gamboru Ngala, a market town located along the shores of Lake Chad near the Cameroon-Nigeria border, has been significantly affected by the heavy rains and flooding.Zulum, who spent the night in the area, expressed his sympathy to the affected communities. He also reassured residents that his administration, in partnership with the federal government, would provide necessary support and solutions to prevent future flooding disasters. Report says that a large portion of the town was submerged in water, which had made it difficult for residents to access food supplies.During his visit, Zulum appealed to the community to avoid building homes on waterways to mitigate the impact of flooding in the future. He acknowledged the severity of the situation and emphasized the need for both immediate and long-term measures to address the flooding. As part of his relief efforts, Zulum distributed food items to the affected residents, which were donated to the state by the federal government. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this while briefing newsmen at the command’s headquaters, in Ikeja on Monday.

He said that the victim was kidnapped while attempting to make a delivery.

“The victim received a request for a product and proceeded to the customer’s house.

“They stripped her, beat her up and took her nude pictures,” the spokesperson said.

Hundeyin said that the suspects demanded a ransom of N2 million, threatening to leak the images, if she failed to comply.

He said that the victim managed to pay N300,000 on the spot, before she was allowed to go.

Tinubu Urges Political Leaders to Focus on Poor, Vulnerable Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu, on Monday night in Abuja, called on political leaders in the country to channel more resources and policies towards catering to the needs of the poor and vulnerable.

The President, who hosted governors, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Service Chiefs, and some selected Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to break the Ramadan fast at the State House, urged leaders to be selfless and work for the people’s benefit.

“I thank you all for responding to this invitation. You honoured it out of respect, not because you don’t have enough to eat or share,” President Tinubu said.

He noted that political leaders’ efforts are crucial in meeting citizens’ expectations.

He commended the people-oriented policies that had started yielding positive results in improved human development indexes and economic indicators.

The President attributed the success of economic reforms to the collective efforts of members of FEC and the collaboration of leaders at the sub-national level.

“I recall in our first FEC meeting, I said we were going to work hard to fetch water from a dry well.

”We are still working hard to ensure that there is water to drink and that we spend money, not the people.

“You, the leaders at the subnational levels, are also doing all you can to spend money, not the people,” he stated.

President Tinubu urged political leaders to work for posterity so that history would remember them for good.

“Look at yourselves as navigators that will bring the country to the promised land. Standing here as President is a great honour, and you can’t trade it.

“Continue doing what you are doing. And do more for the people,” he added.

Tinubu urged leaders to see the entire country as one big family in a house with people living in different rooms.

Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, thanked the President for the bold and decisive reform of the Nigerian economy.

Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue, who led the Christian prayers, said, “It is no coincidence that Muslims and Christians are fasting at the same time.”

Mr Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, noted that the prices of goods and foodstuffs were steadily dropping.

The minister said the reforms had also improved livelihoods while commending the President for his courage. (NAN)
