Buni, Lawan not at War Over 2023, Says APC
By Jude Opara, Abuja
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied a news story on a national newspaper (not Daily Asset) that it has been embroiled in a fresh crisis over the 2023 presidential election.
A statement issued at the weekend by Mamman Mohammed, the DG Press and Media Affairs to Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, said it is regrettable that people could resort to the peddling of “false, delusive, fallacious and a misleading figment of somebody’s imagination.
”According to Mohammed, the newspaper had claimed that Yobe state governor and Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee, Mai Mala Buni and the senate President Ahmed Lawan are bickering over who should emerge as the Vice Presidential candidate since it is expected that the APC will zone their presidential ticket to the South.
He blamed the development on the plot of some unnamed stakeholders to consciously cause disaffection and distract the Caretaker Committee of the party from the important task of rebuilding the party and, to also discredit the President Muhammadu Buhari led government.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there is no any disagreement as a grain of wheat between their the President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan and the Executive Governor of Yobe state who doubles as Chairman APC Caretaker Committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni.
“They have remained good brothers in a very good relationship with a common goal of contributing to the development of their state, party and country.
“His Excellency the Governor of Yobe and Chairman APC Caretaker committee, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, wish to make it abundantly clear that he is heavily preoccupied with the task of governance of his state and rebuilding the party.
“It amounts to insubordination for any loyal party member to start canvassing for any political office two years into the tenure of a sitting President from the party.”
Mohammed also noted that what is paramount for every committed party loyalist is how to support President Buhari has two more years to complete his tenure, to effectively pilot the affairs of the country especially with the rising insecurity in the country.
He equally advised the media to resist any form of manipulation and stand for truth and justice at all times.
