The Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), popularly known as VIO has taken measures to sanitise Jikwoyi/Karshi road.

The Area Commander in charge of Jikwoyi/Karshi Command, Mr Ayobami Atayaro, who disclosed this in an interview with DAILY ASSET, also encouraged the motoring public to always abide by FCT traffic laws.

He also pointed out that the Command under him would work in Synergy with other security agents to rid Okada riders out of road, stating that commercial Okada activities remained banned in the FCT.

The Jikwoyi VIO head also revealed that rickety vehicles and unpainted taxis would not be allowed to ply the road in the area, and enjoined motorists to ensure they conduct morning vehicle checks before taking it to the road.

Atayaro called on the motoring public to visit VIO to renew their vehicle particulars in VIO offices to avoid falling into the hands of impersonators who exploit members of the public to issue fake driver’s licence.

The VIO officer commended the DRTS director in charge of FCT for providing necessary assistance to boost the activities of the Area Command even as he tasked rank and file officers to show commitment and dedication in the area of discharging primary responsibility at all times.

Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has released 43 inmates from correctional centres to decongest facilities and advance justice sector reforms.

The development was contained in a statement on Wednesday by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN).

Pedro said the inmates were recommended by the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

He said the governor acted under Section 212 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), empowering him to grant the prerogative of mercy.

According to him, 91 inmates were similarly released in December 2025, reinforcing the state’s commitment to justice, fairness and improved correctional administration.

“The intervention aims to tackle overcrowding, ensure humane conditions and improve inmates’ movement to court for speedy trials,” Pedro said.

He added that the state procured two coaster buses for the Nigeria Correctional Service to enhance secure and timely transportation of inmates to courts.

“This measure is designed to reduce delays in criminal trials and promote efficiency within the justice system,” he said.

Pedro said renovation and upgrading of selected correctional facilities had also commenced to strengthen custodial infrastructure.

He noted that, with custodial services on the Concurrent Legislative List, the Federal Government could transfer control of at least one Lagos facility to the state.

“Such a move will address weak oversight, inadequate funding, lack of transparency and overcrowding in federal-controlled facilities.

“The government remains committed to reforms, balancing victims’ rights, public safety, offenders’ rehabilitation and human rights protection.

“Lagos remains resolute in implementing effective justice reforms that ensure fairness and promote a safer society,” he said.

The Kwara Government has partnered Olam Agri to curb post-harvest losses and boost farmers’ profitability across the state.

The development is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Ilorin by Ashaolu Omotola, Press Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture.

The agreement was signed by Agriculture Commissioner, Dr Afees Alabi, and Olam Agri’s Vice President for Procurement, Noel Ferrao.

Alabi described post-harvest losses as a major constraint on farmers’ incomes and overall agricultural efficiency in the state.

He stressed the need for improved storage systems, describing them as practical tools to preserve produce and reduce avoidable waste.

The commissioner said activating storage facilities would improve preservation, support aggregation, and help farmers secure better market opportunities through flexible selling timelines.

Alabi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening agricultural support across the 16 local government areas, noting the initiative would directly benefit thousands of farmers.

“The engagement reflects the government’s focus on strengthening infrastructure, deepening private sector collaboration, and improving efficiency for long-term food security and rural development,” he said.

Ferrao said Olam Agri aimed to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Kwara government, development agencies, and financial institutions.

He noted the partnership would deliver sustainable maize and soyabean outgrower programmes, providing inputs, training on best practices, and timely market access.

According to him, Olam Agri already operates a similar soyabean partnership and plans to expand with another programme this farming season.
