FUL Students Embarks on Peaceful Protest over Loss of Colleagues in Auto Crash
From Joseph Amedu, Lokoja
Students of Federal University Lokoja, on Wednesday embarked on a peaceful protest over the death of five of their colleagues in a reckless motor accident caused by an articulated truck in Lokoja on Monday. The students have given the federal government 72 hours within which to meet their demands of stoppage of movement of trailers during the day time, construction of alternative road for trailers to ply and construction of pedestal bridges in front of the University.
The students, who were chanting solidarity songs during the protest to express their grievances, were spotted carrying placards with various inscriptions, calling on both the Federal and State Governments to meet their demands within 72 hours.Addressing journalists, the Student Union President of Federal University Lokoja, Comrade Benjamin Olorunfemi Timothy, who led the protest, said they want the government to ban trucks from plying the highway during the daytime.“On Monday, we lost five of our students, whose pictures are here, to the cold hands of death as a result of the recurring menace of trailers. We have records of 12 to 15 deaths of FUL students caused by trailers and trucks. This is due to the bad road and the high speed of these trucks.“We have seen other states where they ban the movement of trucks during the daytime. The question I am asking here is this: since Monday, if it was the child of the Governor or a Senator, within 24 hours, a law would have been enacted banning trucks from plying our road during the daytime. All passage of heavy-duty trucks should be banned. That is our demand. The SUG President also cried out over robbery cases, security threat and police brutality and harassment currently being faced by the students at the Felele Permanent Campus of the UniversityThe students who lost their lives in the ghastly motor accident are Sehaye Temidayo Emmanuel, Habibaru Ohunene Shaibu, Ajagbona Lolade, Waheed Afeez Omobolaji and Sarah Etiosa Ojei.Foreign News
Trump Tells Iran to Make Nuclear Deal ‘Before it is too Late’

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Iran to conclude an agreement with Washington on its controversial nuclear programme, amid a series of Israeli strikes on nuclear facilities and military leaders.
“There is still time to make this slaughter come to an end,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday.
“Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire,” Trump continued.
“JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”Observers consider it unlikely that Iran’s leadership would opt for a diplomatic approach in light of the Israeli attacks.
Israeli media reported that Tehran had retaliated with an attack involving about 100 drones, all of which were shot down.
“I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal,” Trump wrote.
“The U.S. makes the best and most lethal military equipment anywhere in the World, BY FAR, and Israel has a lot of it, with much more to come and they know how to use it,” Trump wrote. (dpa/NAN)
