Jonathan Speaks on Alleged Ambition, Keeps it Open-ended

The speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan may throw his heart into the rings gained currency on Friday when a coalition of support groups stormed his Abuja residence with various inscriptions urging him to contest the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Jonathan who came out to speak to them thanked Nigerians for the confidence they reposted in him said he believes in the growth and development of the country.

However, while he didn’t make a categorical statement to endorse their proposal said he always believed that the youth should have a say in the day to day administration of the country.
“I always say youths must get involved in the Political process and The- Not- Too- Young -To -Run law has made it clear that young people can contest any position in government.

So we will continue to encourage you to get involved in the political process, and as long as many youths get involved in the political process, we will be able to get the government that we want. “Yes the country is facing some challenges some of them started a long time ago and I believe that with the interest of young people, these problems will be dealt with if we work very hard.  “Yes you are calling me to come and declare for the next election, I cannot tell you I’m declaring.

The political process is ongoing. Just watch out.  “But the key role you must play is that you must pray that Nigeria gets somebody that carry the young people along, somebody that can also work very hard to see that some of the problems you raised are dealt with by government. And I believe collectively we will work together, I thank all of you”, the former President stated”.

Speaking earlier, Convener of Youth Compatriots of Nigeria (YCom), Mayor Samuel said they decided to appeal to the former President to run because they have found out that he has what it takes to lead a multicultural nation like Nigeria.

Even when he did not indicate under which platform they want him to run, Samuel said they are not interested in any party, adding that any party that gives Jonathan its ticket really means well for Nigeria and that they will mobilize the good people of the country from North to South to vote for him.

He further regretted that in 2015, some people came and deceived then that they have what it takes to run the country, only for them to run it aground.  President Muhammmadu Buhari defeated Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.

In a major political move in Gombe State, the Chairman of Gombe Local Government and state ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sani Ahmad Haruna (Wakilin Arewan Gombe), has welcomed a large group of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors are from the polling unit of former Gombe State Governor, Dr.

Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo on Tuesday.

They were led by the Senior Special Assistant on GOSTEC, D.

J. Mai Taya, who presented them to the APC leadership during a reception ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Barr. Sani Haruna praised the new members for what he described as a bold choice.

He assured them of equal opportunities and inclusion in party affairs, saying the APC was committed to good governance, unity, and sustainable development.

Representing the State APC Chairman, Nite K. Amangal, the Gombe LGA APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi, commended the unity among party members and promised continued support for both old and new members.

Also addressing the gathering, the Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Hon. Abubakar Aminu Musa, called the defection “a major step towards consolidating political unity and enhancing grassroots participation in governance.”

Some defectors said they were impressed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s leadership style and the APC’s development achievements at both state and national levels. They cited these as the main reasons for switching parties.

The event drew party stakeholders, ward councillors, and a large crowd of supporters, ending with calls for collective efforts to strengthen APC’s presence ahead of future elections.

2027: APGA Founder, Chekwas Okorie Rallies Igbo Political Leaders

The pioneer National Chairman and founder of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chekwas Okorie, has called a meeting of Igbo political leaders and elite to discuss the mobilisation of Ndigbo towards 2027 elections and beyond.

In a letter he wrote inviting some Igbo leaders, Okorie said, “After a number of consultations, it became compelling that a select number of our leaders across political party lines and other critical stakeholders be invited to deliberate on what ought to be the agenda of Ndigbo in Nigerian politics irrespective of political party affiliation.

The elder statesman stated: “God has blessed Ndigbo with a huge population and enviable geographical spread, which have remained largely untapped over the years.

We have no excuse to lack relevance and well deserved respect in Nigeria.”

Okorie suggested that the meeting was not for 2027 alone.

“We owe ourselves and our younger generations the responsibility to provide the required guidance and chart a deliberate action-plan to reverse our present unacceptable situation in a sustainable manner. It is for this and other related matters, that this meeting has become compelling and crucial.”

The meeting, which is under the auspices of Igbo Agenda Dialogue, though political, is non-partisan.

“I wish to emphasize that this meeting is non-partisan even as the subject matter is political,” Dr Okorie insisted.

Majority of the invitees have enthusiastically accepted the invitation to the meeting which will be held in Abuja before the end of August, 2025.

Nobody Can Control PDP – Bode George

Published

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, on Wednesday, declared that no individual can own or control the former ruling party.

George said the PDP is not the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, that can be controlled by an individual.

He warned that consequences awaits members of the PDP that are working with other presidential candidates and have refused to turn from such ways.

Speaking with Arise Television, the PDP chieftain insisted that the party has rules and norms which must be obeyed.

He said: “There must be rules, there will be laws and there are also red lines that you must not cross. You cannot serve two masters – a slave who has two masters will honour one and dishonour the other one.

The Almighty God told us that you can’t serve the devil and the lord our God.

“It’s high time that if you want to be a responsible and respectable member of this organization, you must obey their laws, if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen. It’s getting so unacceptable that you get people that would work for the party here and go work for the presidential candidate of the opposition party, it’s laughable.

“If you want to be with us, be with us and if you want to go to the other way, good riddance to bad rubbish. Those who are in APC, have you ever heard even the smallest being there talking about supporting our party as against their own? They won’t dear that, so let’s call a spade a spade.

“The rules are there and if you can’t stand the rules, gracefully get out and if anybody had done it they must come to NEC and tender an apology or a punishment will be meted out to them.

“We want to present our party to them as one that is respectable, responsible, and would manage the resources of the land for the benefit of the people. If you are then not showing that attitude how do we convince them to vote for us?

“I have said it severally and will say it again, the only political Iroko party in this country that is well structured and has organization, we have rules, we the areas where we say don’t do that and if you commit that offence they will ship you out. No individual owns this party, no control this party – we are not APC.

Chief George also warned party members working for the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress to tender an apology and be ready to face sanctions.

Taking an instance from the Bible, the elder statesman said that no one could serve two masters at the same time, stressing that he would honour one and dishonour the other.

He pointed out that whoever wants to be a responsible and respectable member of the PDP must abide by the rules of the party.

The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, is a card carrying member of the PDP and at the same time a Minister of the FCT in the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC-led Federal Government.

“Working for the PDP and the presidential candidate of the APC is laughable. Those involved must tender an apology. You cannot serve two masters. If you want to be a respectable member of this organisation, you must obey its laws.

“It is getting so unacceptable that you will have people who will tell you they will work for the party here, and at the same time they will go and work for the presidential candidate of the opposition party. It is absolutely laughable. If you want to be with us, be with us. If you want to go to the other side, then get out of here,” he said.
