The Nigerian military has captured the second in command leader of the once most dreaded criminal gang in Benue state, late Terwase Akwaza AKA Gana, Mr Kumaor Fachii.

Commander, 4 special forces command of the Nigerian military Doma, Major General Gadzama Ali disclosed this to newsmen in Doma, Nasarawa state.

Fachii who was paraded at the military base in Doma is believed to be the successor of the once notorious Gana, who was killed by the military in September.

According to General Ali ” 36 days back, the dreaded Gana was paraded here before you people, I mention that some of his kingpins have been arrested.

“Some of them are on the run and we are in pursuit of them, this afternoon, the gentleman seated before you is the second in command, after the episode that we have with the dreaded Gana, some school of thought were saying that his second in command have inherited all his powers, everything.

“Lo and behold, our troops have gone in pursuit of them, and today seated before you is Mr Kumaor Fachii AKA commander, second in command of the dreaded Gana that has inherited his magic.

“He is the 76th person now that we have, apart from Gana and the other 4 that have gone to where they belong, I can assure you that all the Gana gang members will be in our dragnet, so far our men are out there and Mr Fachii have spoken so much about what is obtainable on the ground,” he said.

General Gadzama Ali disclosed that Fachii was arrested in his girl friend’s room during a night operation of the military troops in a village called Agbi in Katsina Ala LGA, Benue state.

Speaking to the press, Mr Fachii confirmed his involvement with the organized crime syndicate. He, however, denied being the second in command of the gang, but rather, the second in command of one of the divisions of the gang.

“My name is Kumaor Fachii, I started in 2018 with Gana, before then, I was an okada man before I join them in the bush, I use to collect money from Takum road from passengers and other road users and we return all the money to Gana

“Gana attach me with a group and the group carry arms, it is the group that appointed me second commander of the group, but Gana did not hand over his powers and magic to me, he handed over all his powers and magic to Azonto, his younger brother who is still in the bush, he said.

Items recovered from Mr Fachii include arms and ammunition, military uniforms, three locally made rocket launchers , charms among others, the Commander of the Army Unit said.

) The Benue Police Command has confirmed that suspected killer herdsmen on Sunday night attacked communities in Gwer West and Apa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edit Udeme, made the confirmation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makurdi on Monday.

Udeme said that tactical teams were already deployed in the affected areas to restore peace and security.

She said that nine bodies were already recovered from Edikwu Community in Apa LGA, adding that the search for the missing natives was still ongoing.

She, however, said that she had yet to get the number of casualties from the Naka attack.

“This is to confirm that there was an attack yesterday at Naka and Apa and to let you know that tactical teams have been deployed and already on ground and are on top of the situation.

“I will get back to you after getting further and accurate information, please,” she said

A credible source from Apa LGA told newsmen that the attackers invaded the community at about 6:30pm on Sunday and started shooting sporadically, killing anyone in sight.

The source further said that over 25 persons were killed and that many were also taken away to unknown destinations during the deadly assault.

It said: “As I speak with you, there is no single object in the community.

“It was an unprovoked attack. We were unaware.

“Some people went to evening service, while others were at a beer joint when the killers came.

“It is an evening one can never imagine.

“Security personnel stationed at the area were overpowered as they looked so helpless.”

In a reaction to the attack on Naka, the Chairman, Gwer West Traditional Council, Daniel Abomtse, said that the attackers “came in a guerrilla style and attacked Tse Antswam.

“As I’m talking with you now, (Monday) morning, 18 corpses had been recovered and many people sustained varied degree of injuries.

“In fact, the way some people were butchered, I doubt if they will survive.

“The search is still ongoing because many ran into the bush with gun wounds and some also jumped into well to escape the herdsmen.”

The royal father said that the community attacked was opposite a military checkpoint on the Naka- Makurdi Road. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
