NAF Takes Delivery of Mobile First Aid Unit from German Gov

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of the Air Mobile First Aid Unit (AMFAU), a cutting-edge medical facility to strengthen efficient response to medical emergencies.
The unit was set up by the German Technical Advisory Group (GTAG) under a bilateral agreement between Nigeria and Germany.
The Chief Of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen.
Christopher Musa, represented by Maj. -Gen. Muhammad Abdullahi, Director of Communication, Defence Headquarters, described the event as special to the fight against insurgency and other criminals in the country.He said that the Nigerian Armed Forces had benefited immensely from the agreement especially the Equipment Aid Programme (EAP).
Musa said that the EAP covered Medical Emergency Project at Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre (MLAILPKC), Mechatronics project at AFEME, Counter Improvised Explosive Devices at NASME, and Reconnaissance Wing Project at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), among other projects.
The CDS said that the unit would strengthen medical emergencies, as it would provide emergency treatment including minor surgeries to injured personnel to save lives.
Musa said, “The unit can be deployed for a maximum of 72 hours to any part of the country, and consists of a Triage, Theatre and a recovery ward.
“This project involves setup training, implementation and construction of molecular medical treatment facility for operation in order to ensure immediate and rapid medical support to personnel of the AFN.”
He said that so far under the agreement, several personnel had been trained in Aero Medical Emergency, Tactical Combat Casualty Care, provision of medical utility vehicles for Team A and B.
According to him, it alos involves the provision of medical tentages and the construction of a rraining hall, among others.
The CDS appreciated the German Government for the laudable efforts, and assured that the Nigerian Air Force would put the facility to optimal benefit.
Earlier, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, recalled that the agreement between Nigeria and Germany was signed in Abuja on Dec .13 , 2012.
He said, “This bilateral agreement led to the creation of “Project 1” which is a project arrangement related to the German Equipment Aid Programme for the period 2021-2024.”
The CAS, represented by the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Air Training Command, AVM Ahmad Dari, said the unit was designed to provide emergency medical care in various scenarios, including internal security, crisis management, and national defence.
“This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed by trained medical personnel.
“The Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Sciences and Aviation Medicine has been conducting short-term courses on emergency medicine, and plans are underway to expand training to non-medical personnel.
“This move aims to enhance the capacity of NAF personnel to provide medical care in emergency situations,” he said.
Abubakar said the AMFAU was a testament of the benefits of international cooperation and collaboration.
He added, “The bilateral agreement between Nigeria and Germany had facilitated the transfer of technology, expertise, and resources, ultimately enhancing the NAF’s medical capabilities.”
The CAS expressed gratitude to the German Government, Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, and other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the project.
“With the AMFAU now operational, NAF is poised to enhance its medical capabilities, providing better care for its personnel and supporting national security efforts.
“The Nigerian Air Force’s acquisition of the Air Mobile First Aid Unit marks a significant milestone in its efforts to enhance medical capabilities and provide better care for its personnel,” Abubakar said.
Also, the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs Ammett Gunthier, said as part of its foreign policy, Germany works closely with partners worldwide to support peace, security, and humanitarian efforts.
The Envoy, represented by Col. Boris Bovenkamp, German Military Attache to Nigeria, said the German Armed Forces plays a crucial role in these efforts, especially in regions facing security challenges.
The ambassador said that German has no direct combat mission in Nigeria, but has been supporting the Nigerian military in various ways.
“As Germany continues its international security efforts, cooperation with Nigeria will remain a priority.
“Strengthening diplomatic, military, and humanitarian ties will benefit both nations and contribute to a more stable and peaceful future,” Gunthier said.
In his remarks, the Commandant, Nigerian Air Force School of Medical Science and Aviation Medicine, Air Commodore Rilwanu Abdullah, pledged to handle and maintain the facility to ensure maximum benefit to the personnel.
He said the facility was designed to provide critical training to military personnel on the management of medical emergencies in peace and war time.
Abdullahi appreciated the Chief of Air Staff who was instrumental to the resurgence of academic activities at the school, leading to the unprecedented accreditation of four medical courses in 2024.
“I once again congratulate the German Government through the GTAG for fulfilling their part of the partnership,” Abdullahi said.(NAN)

BSUTH Launches 24-hour Complaint Center

In a bid to improve poor communication and answer questions to restore patients’ trust, the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) has launched a 24-hour Service Complaint Center in Makurdi.Chief Medical Director (CMD) of BSUTH, Dr.
Stephen Hwande, said the new unit, also known as the Servicom Center, would serve as a direct response to long-standing concerns about staff conduct and service delays. He noted while conducting journalists around the facility recently that the centre would provide solutions to patients and caregivers who quietly bear frustration at the hospital “People deserve answers. They deserve respect. This center will make sure no one is ignored.The complaints must go through the hospital’s official channel for patient feedback before they are taken elsewhere.“We are urging the public to stop airing grievances on social media without first seeking redress internally.“We’re here to listen, but there must be structure,” he added.The CMD explained that to ensure transparency, hospital staff are now required to wear visible identify cards and name tags, emphasising that, “Patients must know who they are talking to. Methodist Synod Urges FG to Enhance Police Capacity to Combat Ritual Killings

Methodist Church of Nigeria, Calabar, Synod has charged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to enhance the capacity of police personnel to effectively address the rising wave of ritual killings and insecurity challenge troubling the country.The called on government at all levels to galvanize state apparatus to stem the tide of unabated shedding of innocent blood through wanton killings, vandalization and plundering of national assets.
The Synod noted with dismay the return of paganism and alarming rate of sacrifices of innocent persons in different parts of the nation for money making purposes by evil individuals in the country. Chairman, 3rd Annual Synod, Methodist Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Atamunu Calabar, Rt. Rev. Otuekong Ukut, gave the charge while commenting on the state of the nation in Calabar yesterday.He decried that innocent persons had been murdered and sacrifice for money ritual purposes to wicked gods for with the perpetrators of this dastardly act deceiving themselves that they will make wealth and riches from organ harvesting and traffickingClauses from the 10-point communiqué issued by the Synod signed by the chairman Rt. Senate Resumes, Sets Eyes on Reconciliation of Stakeholders in Rivers Crisis, Others

The National Assembly will resume plenary today with the eyes of the Senate set on further consideration of the Tax Reform Bills, 2024 even as the Upper Legislative body hopes to work with the Executive to resolve the political imbroglio in River State, among other issues of national importance.
In a statement yesterday by the Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi the essence of the senate wading into the Rivers crisis is to ensure that all stakeholders come to terms on the need to addressing the root causes of those issues and ensuring proper reconciliation of all key actors in the overriding public interest. Speaking further, he said the passage of the tax reform bills has become imperative to reforming the country’s tax regime as it would shore up the revenue of the federation, adding that it would also help governments at all levels to implement projects and deliver the dividends of democracy.In the same, the Senate Leader said that the recent resurgence of insecurity in different parts of the federation, especially Benue, Borno, Katsina and Plateau, has caught their attention and that as the foremost democratic institution that makes laws for the peace, order and good government of the Federation, the Senate will speed engagement with key actors in the security sector and come up with mechanisms for the effective management of national security. We are committed to putting an end to all acts of terrorism across the federation.The Senate will also give more attention to the review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).” The Constitution Review Committee chaired by Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jubrin will speed up the review process with a view to strengthening our federal structure in the interest of all even as they will kick-start the review of the Electoral Act, 2022 for the conduct of a more credible and transparent election.We also have bills of strategic national interest that are pending before the Senate on different sectors of the economy. There is an urgent need to consider those bills and ensure their passage expeditiously. We will also encourage our special and standing committees to put in place public hearings that will give us the opportunity to engage with the electorate on various aspects of law-making and give their own inputs”, he said.
