“Tonight, we have gathered here not just to celebrate achievements but to reflect on the incredible journey we have undertaken together in our fight against oil theft and crude oil vandalism.

“This battle is not just about protecting the nation’s oil and gas infrastructure; it is a mission to secure the economic future of Nigeria.

“At TSSNL, we have embraced this responsibility with unwavering resolve, and I am proud to say we are making significant strides in this fight.

“In less than two years, of the engagement of Tantita, the results are astounding as the report from the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative and Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission for the year 2023.

“Shows very significant reduction of oil losses from 36.69 million barrels in 2022 to 7.68 million barrels, reflecting a whopping 79 per cent decrease compared to the previous year.

“In the Span Tantita’s operations within these years, August 2022 and November 2024, the contribution of Tantita’s workforce who have shown unparalleled commitment in the fight against crude oil theft discovered a total of 3,963 incidents captured on IMRA.

Pondi attributed the feat recorded by Tantita to the collaboration and support from the President Bola Tinubu’s led administration.

According to him, the commitment and partnership strengthened the Tantita’s resolve and amplified its impact.

“Our immense gratitude goes to the unwavering support of the Government Security Agencies especially the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp, Department of State Security Service and the Nigerian Navy.

“Your dedication to eradicate oil theft and vandalism has emboldened us to achieve milestones that were once thought unattainable,” he said.

The managing director also recognised those who paid the ultimate price, especially the military, civil defense, key informants and of course, personnel of TSSNL in the course of ensuring that the nation has a booming economy.

He equally recognised the incredible efforts of the Tantita team whose collective contributions had so far driven the successes of the security outfit.

“As we honour excellence through these awards, let it serve as a reminder of what we can achieve when we work together with unity of purpose.

“They are not just symbols of individual accomplishment but also a testament to the power of teamwork and shared vision.

Pondi noted that the journey ahead would require greater effort, but expressed confidence that together and with the support of the government and the strength of the united team, the challenges are surmountable.

From Samuel James, Ilorin

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency Committee in the House of Representatives has disclosed that 21 road projects have been completed in the South West zone, while additional eight projects are in progress in Kwara State.Hon. Aderemi Hussein, who is the Chairman of the Committee, made these known during an oversight inspection of FERMA’s activities in Kwara, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, and Lagos states.

The inspection which took place in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, was said to verify allocated funds were used appropriately for road maintenance.
Hussain stated that the committee was satisfied with the levels of work carried out in line with 2024 approvals, based on briefings from directors and state engineers.
”After our meetings with the federal road maintenance engineers, we were quite pleased with the briefs received from the directors and the state engineers in charge regarding the levels of work done so far.””The 21 projects were awarded in South West 1, and all have been fully completed and you have to appreciate the team for delivering on what was expected of them”, he said.Hussein, who represents Ido and Ibarapa East federal constituency of Oyo State, noted that paperwork alone is not enough. He explained that eight projects were approved for Kwara state and out of these, five had been completed, while three were in progress. The Federal lawmaker further called for more funding of FERMA.as he added that the agency only receives 10 percent of what it needed to operate effectively. He complained that FERMA used to be one of the most reliable government agencies as it was properly funded at the beginning. The Engineers were actively working, the contractors were engaged and people could see quality work being done across the country,” he said.He added that the need for better support is now obvious to both experts and ordinary road users.Hon. Hussein said the committee is committed to accountability while emphasising that every fund appropriated must be traced to the project it was budgeted for.He however hailed President Bola Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure under the Renewed Hope initiative. While speaking, the FERMA’s Zonal Coordinator for South West 1, Engr Babatunde Aina, said funding remains a major challenge to some of the projects. He explained that many roads span several kilometres, but budget limitations have forced the agency to only focus on critical portions.

According to him, the portal for registration of trainees under the TVET programme will be formally launched by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s desire to ensure that no one is left behind. He added that the gesture is designed to attract more young people to TVET and incentivize them to acquire relevant skills that will make them useful to society. The minister explained that the free education applies to students in both federal and state technical colleges across the country.Accreditation of both public and private TVET centres nationwide is ongoing for the training of other categories of students. He disclosed that the national target is to train no fewer than 5 million Nigerian youths with industry-relevant, entrepreneurial, and income-generating skills by the year 2030. He emphasized that this is not just a projection but a mission backed by strategic investments, implementation frameworks, and multisectoral partnerships. He stressed that the goal is not merely to produce certified graduates but to build a skilled workforce that is globally competitive, entrepreneurial, and adaptable. He noted that this is the only way to bridge the skills gap, reduce youth unemployment, support local industries, and attract investments into the real economy.Alausa further noted that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ministry of Education has identified TVET as a national priority. He said the reform package is anchored on a standardized skills certification and demand-driven trade areas. To ensure broad participation, the government has introduced a package of practical incentives: tuition waivers, monthly stipends for learners, grants and single-digit loans in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BOI), and business start-up kits for graduates. The Minister further revealed that the reform is designed to be inclusive, decentralized, and collaborative, explaining that the Ministry has already engaged state governors, commissioners of education, sector skills councils, regulatory agencies, employers, and development partners to build ownership at every level.According to him, over 3,600 teachers and instructors have been retrained and upskilled, while the government is scaling up the accreditation of both public and private TVET centres nationwide. He, therefore, urged all Nigerians — governments at all levels, private sector actors, donor agencies, civil society, and the media — to see themselves as co-owners of this transformative agenda. In her welcome remarks, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, described the TVET initiative as a bold leap forward for dreamers, builders, innovators, and problem-solvers who aspire to shape the nation with their hands, hearts, and minds.
