Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has said that the government’s commitment to building roads was informed by the need to provide an efficient road network in the state.

Otti said this on Sunday at a church thanksgiving service organised by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mrs Nkiruka Onyejiocha, in Amuda-Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area.

He further affirmed the commitment of his administration to continue to initiate programmes and policies that would improve the welfare of th Abia people.

“All what we are doing in government is to ensure that people’s life gets better.

“So, when we are building roads, it is not a favour, we want to create access so that people can go about their businesses freely and smoothly,” he said.

Otti commended the people of Umunneochi for their support toward the programmes and policies of his government.

He called on the Church to continue to pray for the government, adding that Abia and Nigeria would be better this time.

He said: “I want to thank the Minister for remembering to thank God.

“Like the Bishop said, ‘it is very easy to run away with your blessing, without acknowledging from where it came’.

“As you have acknowledged God and you have celebrated God in this way, celebration will never end in your house,” the governor said.

Also, Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo said that the governors of the South-East were working together to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

Uzodinma urged the people to support the federal and state governments to provide security for lives and property, which he described as the essence of governance.

“We are delighted that the awareness has become so incremental that focus is on  delivering quality service in government and not based on party affiliations.

“When we serve our people well it means by extension we have served God, because the mind of the people is obviously the mind of God,” he said.

Uzodinma also thanked God for His goodness toward the celebrant, adding that her appointment as a minister was “a testimony of her hardwork and commitment to duty”.

Earlier, Onyejiocha thanked God for His bountiful mercies over her life and for being her foundation and help over the years.

She recounted her life experiences as well as her walk with God and expressed her readiness to serve at any level to make the nation great.

Onyejiocha also said that the era of relegating God to the background in Abia was over as God had taken over the state and all that concerns it.

In a sermon, entitled “The Power of Thanksgiving”, the Bishop of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Nsukka/Ehamufu,  Dr John Eze, expressed the need for humanity to always show gratitude to God.

Eze said that thanksgiving provokes the power of God into action, triggers multiplication of blessings, guarantees preservation of testimonies and makes people to know that God blesses.

The event was attended by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Trade and Commerce, Mrs Doris Uzoka, the AOC National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd.), among other dignitaries. (NAN)

Tinubu’s Achievements Undermining Oppositions’ Doubts – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has lauded the achievements of President Bola Tinubu, saying his impactful projects and reforms have rendered political opposition efforts ineffective.

Wike made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja, during the inauguration of Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) and other roads in the Katampe District.

He noted that the impressive pace of development under Tinubu’s leadership had disoriented critics and opposition groups, particularly the supposed coalition created to challenge Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

“I thought there would be a coalition, but when people see new projects being unveiled daily, that idea collapses.

“The coalition has failed because of the good work Mr President is doing,” Wike said.

He explained that the N16 to N20 road was awarded in September and commenced in Oct. 2024 and later extended through Gishiri Village to connect it to Wole Soyinka Way.

The further said that Tinubu administration has built contractors’ trust in government, adding that the contractors now have confidence to execute projects knowing they would be paid.

He disclosed that although the extension of the N16 road to N20 was recently approved by the FCT Executive Council, the contractor had already completed it, citing confidence in prompt government payments.

He also noted that communities affected by the road construction were adequately compensated, receiving 200 per cent of the compensation rate in line with Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”.

“President Tinubu has brought that trust back, and the people of the FCT, particularly those in satellite towns are seeing progress like never before,” Wike said.

He thanked the president for giving him the opportunity to be part of what he described as a “revolution in the FCT,” and vowed that no project initiated under his tenure would be abandoned.

Responding, Tinubu commended Wike and his team for their commitment to transformative infrastructure development, describing the minister as a “team builder and a team player.”

“Infrastructure is not a luxury; it is a necessity; it is the bedrock of national competitiveness, growth, social integration, and economic opportunity,” the president said.

Also speaking, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, expressed gratitude to FCT residents for their patience during the construction process.

“To the people of Gishiri, Maitama, and the entire FCT community, thank you for your resilience and belief in the government’s capacity to deliver.

“You are the heart of this city, and this project is a tribute to your enduring hope,” she said.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Mr Richard Dauda, said that described the road as a 3.7-kilometre, six-lane dual carriageway.

He said that the road linked Maitama District in Phase I to Katampe, Jahi, and Mabushi Districts in Phase II. (NAN)
