An apprentice tyre dealer, Cissé Abdullahi, who attempted absconding to Republic of Benin following his wife’s delivery of quadruplets, has solicited the support of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and other philanthropists for the care of the babies.

Abdullahi, 37, a native of Ilorin, who lives at Kumapaji Phase 3, Baale Bus Stop, Oko-Afo in Olorunda LCDA, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that only N3,500 was in his possession when he heard that his wife had delivered quadruplets.

“I was coming from Apapa where I am learning how to sell tyres when I heard the news of my wife’s delivery of the babies at the Badagry General Hospital.

“It is a good thing, but I never expected quadruplets because the last scan indicated that it would be twins.

“When I got home, I decided to escape to Benin Republic because I don’t have money to take care of the quadruplets.

“Getting to Seme border, I was about to cross when I saw my intimate friend who was surprised to see me at the border post around 9:00p.m.

“I was forced to tell him why I wanted to travel out of the country, consequently, he appealed to me to go back to my family with the promise that he will assist,’’ he said.

Abdullahi said that since returning to his wife and children, the only assistance he has so far received was from the friend.

The new father said that the room he and his wife had been living in before the birth of the quadruplets could no longer accommodate the family again.

“I need the assistance of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, the chairmen of the three councils in Badagry and well-meaning Nigeria to take care of my children.

“At present, I owe the General Hospital a lot of money because the delivery was through Caesarean Section.

“I don’t have any means of livelihoods, I need the help of well-meaning Nigerian to raise my quadruplets up in a good environment, he said.

NAN correspondent who visited the Badagry General Hospital reports that Mrs Sekinat Abdullahi and her quadruplets were in the Maternal, Childcare Centre (MCC) section.

Dr Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director of the hospital, said the quadruplets were born between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30p.m. on Monday.

According to him, the quadruplets- two boys and two girls are in good condition, but presently they are kept in incubator at the MCC.

He said the last of the quadruplets was very small, adding that they are taking special care of them.

Sekinat, 26, a fashion designer, appreciated God and the management of the hospital for the safe birth of her quadruplet.

“This is my first birth; I never expected four children, but they have come to the world through me.

“I want to appeal to Lagos State government and residents of Badagry to come to our aid because we cannot take care of the quadruplets alone.

“The burdens would be too much for my husband alone,” she said. (NAN)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says Sen. Monday Okpebholo remains its governorship candidate in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo.Mr Felix Morka, the party’sNational Publicity Secretary made the party’s position clear in a statement issued in Abuja.Morka said the clarification became necessary following fake news thatOkpebholo had been disqualified by a magistrate court.

“In the final hours to the Edogubernatorial election scheduled to hold Saturday, Sept.
21, 2024, certain political parties have desperately resorted to forgery and disinformation on our candidate.“The blackmail is to the extent of circulating a fake magistrate court ruling purportedly disqualifying Sen.
Okpebholo, the APC gubernatorial candidate in the election.“The circulated ruling is fake, a fabrication and an act of pure desperation in the face of their imminent defeat at the polls,” Morka said.He said the magistrate court that purportedly issued the fake ruling had issued a disclaimer, stating categorically that it did not emanate from him.Morka added that the fake ruling meant to sow seeds of doubt about the APC candidate, was a blatant and calculated attempt to subvert the will of the Edo electorate.“We call on our law enforcement agencies to identify, investigate and bring the perpetrators of this falsehood to book,” he said. He, therefore, urged Edo voters to remain vigilant and resolute in the exercise of their democratic rights at the polls. He expressed trust that Edo people would ignore this and other illegal devices by desperate candidates and their parties to subvert the election.“Sen. Monday Okpebholo is and remains, the standard bearer of the APC in Edo gubernatorial election,” Morka stated. (NAN)

The Kwara Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for maximum protection for journalists and observers assigned for the coverage of the state’s local government elections on Saturday. The Council’s Chairman, Abdullateef Ahmed, in a statement on Friday in Ilorin by the Council Secretary, Olayinka Alaya, emphasised the need for safety for the journalists and observers.

He said this was necessary in view of the critical role journalists play in ensuring transparent and fair polls.
”The Council urges security personnel deployed for the elections to ensure that journalists across the 16 local government areas (LGAs) of the state carry out their duties without fear of harassment or intimidation.
”The NUJ also cautions that any form of harassment or intimidation of journalists while performing their constitutionally-guaranteed duties will not be tolerated.“As the watchdog of the society, members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm must be accorded their due rights and respect before, during and after the electoral process.“Any attack on journalists is an attack on democracy itself,” Alaya quoted the Council Chairman as saying. The Kwara Council of NUJ also stressed the need for security agencies to ensure watertight security throughout the period allotted for the electoral process.”We urge security personnel to be proactive in addressing potential threats that may compromise the integrity of the elections or put media professionals at risk,” Ahmed said.He also called on the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) to maintain an unbiased position throughout the entire process.Ahmed appealed to the electoral umpire to ensure timely distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials to polling units. The Council Chairman also encouraged eligible voters across the state to exercise their voting rights responsibly, urging them to remain calm and law-abiding during the process.“This exercise is an opportunity for the people of Kwara to shape the future of their LGAs.“It is fundamental that eligible voters come out and utilise their franchise and do so without any fear,” he advised.(NAN)
