Rivers Angels Football Club will today lock horns with their perennial rivals, Bayelsa Queens in Nembe.

The Jewel of Rivers who currently lead their group with 10 points, 2 points above the Restoration Ladies will be hoping to maintain the lead after this mid-week encounter which promises to be an intriguing one.

Hosts Bayelsa Queens, two points adrift of the Port Harcourt side were last week held to a goalless draw in Umuahia when they played against Abia Angels in Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Matchday 5.

A win over the Restoration Girls will ensure the Jewel Of Rivers go 5 points clear at the summit of the log and enterprising attacker Maryann Ezenagu believes it is doable for her side.

“Tomorrow’s match is a crucial one which we can’t afford to let slip because we want to maintain our position as we head towards the end of this first stanza,” said Ezenagu.

“I know this ground is a difficult one to play on but who says picking all three points isn’t possible for us? We are definitely going to give it our best shot.

“It’s always a feisty one whenever we come up against Bayelsa Queens, we are ready to match them strength by strength and whatever they bring on the day.

“All we’re here for is to have a good game and result at the end of tomorrow and nothing less,” she added.

The last time both sides met in a regular league game, it ended 1-0 in favour of Rivers Angels and Maryann Ezenagu was the scorer that day.

The Jewel of Rivers are unbeaten this season after playing 4 matches while Bayelsa Queens have lost a game to FC Robo Queens and are placed 2nd on the table.

The Board of Lobi Stars FC has appointed former Super Eagles coach, Daniel Amokachi, as the new Technical Adviser of the club.

This is contained in a statement issued by the club’s Head of Media, Mr Emmanuel Uja, on Sunday in Makurdi.

Amokachi’s appointment takes immediate effect, as the club sought to revitalise its strategy and improve performance.

Uja stated that all the backroom staff had been relieved of their duties and instructed to reapply if they wished to continue with the club.

He said that they were directed to hand over all the club’s property in their possessions to the club’s Secretary, immediately.

Uja explained that the club’s former Coach, Eugene Agagbe, had been relieved of his appointment as Chief Coach with immediate effect.

“This decision follows the board’s review of Agagbe’s failure to meet a five-match win target, managing only one victory while losing three,” Uja said. (NAN)
