Scott Joint Leader as Smith Dodges Cut in Australian Open

Former Masters champion, Adam Scott zoomed into a two-way share of the lead in the Australian Open while Cameron Smith narrowly avoided the halfway cut in Melbourne yesterday.
Scott, 42, rolled back the years with five birdies and an eagle three at the 18th for an unblemished seven-under 63 to join overnight leader David Micheluzzi on eight-under 134.
In the adjoining women’s tournament held on the same sandbelt courses at Kingston Heath and Victoria Golf Club, Australia’s Hannah Green swept into the lead after a six-under 66.
In contrast to 2014 Masters champion Scott’s brilliant round, world No 3 and British Open champion Smith stuttered to a one-over 73 to just scrape into the weekend rounds in a tie for 60th on two-over 144.
“I’m here to win the tournament this week and I can turn things around quick, I have that experience as well and it did today,” world number 36 Scott said.
“I hit some much better shots today. I mean, I’d be lying if I said I’m 100 per cent confident with exactly where it’s going, but I had a better idea today.
“You have to let go of some of the inhibitions or the fear of going offline and just swing the club.”
Smith said his mind was “foggy” and his second round was “pretty rubbish” as the major tournament drawcard looked for much of the day that he would sit out the weekend.
Smith’s opening two rounds included just six birdies, nine bogeys and 21 pars.
“I was just really uncomfortable all day, kind of similar to yesterday, just couldn’t quite hit the ball out the middle of the club face for some reason or another,” Smith said.

The Chairman of the Benue Football Association, Paul Edeh, said the momentum of this year’s league would be far better than the previous years because of the number of teams participating in the league.

The winner goes home with half a million naira; the runner-up gets ₦300,000, while third place will be rewarded with N200,000.
“In addition, the eight teams that would qualify for the Super Eight will go home with a brand new set of jerseys and a minimum of five balls.“All the coaches that finished in the first four would get automatic scholarships to study at the National Institute for Sports in Abuja.“Our belief is that when we sustain coaches training, we will be able to discover talents that we need in the state,” he said.

Liverpool Trashed Tottenham Hotspur To Secure 20th EPL Title
by Muhyideen Jimoh
Liverpool clinched the Premier League title in style as they came from behind to thrash Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield.
First-half strikes from Luis Diaz, Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo all but wrapped up a record-equalling 20th top-flight title.
This was before Mohammed Salah’s 28th goal of a prolific campaign and a Destiny Udogie own goal made the scoreline emphatic.
Spurs briefly threatened to spoil a party that began hours before kick-off by taking an early lead through former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke but the Londoners put up little resistance as the Reds clicked into gear.
The title, secured with four games to spare, is only the Merseysiders’ second in 35 years.
It is also the first in that period they have been permitted to celebrate in front of fans after their 2020 success came during the COVID-19 pandemic
