‘Why Benue Join #ENDSARS Protest’

From Vincent Nyinongu, Makurdi

#ENDSARS protesters in Benue State have said they have joined the nationwide action having discovered that the federal government and police were not serious in addressing issues raised by the on-going protest to #ENDSARS.

One of the Leaders of the Benue end SARS protest, Mr.

Ukan Kurugh who disclosed this to Daily Asset as ENDSARS protest hit Makurdi the Benue State capital, said the purpose of the protest was to ensure that police authority and federal government respond positively to the demands of the masses.

He said the police, in a bid to return the special unit the people were calling for its scrapping has hastily and haphazardly inveigled in with a new name called SWAT.

Kurugh informed that what the protesters were agitating for was not the name of the unit in itself but total reformation and restructuring of the Nigeria Police to end impunity and brutality of the citizenry by the force. The Nigeria police should be equipped for optimal work rather than creating special police which suddenly became anti-humans.

“It’s all about ending police brutality. It’s started with end SARS, they brought SWAT. This is too fast and haphazard; there’s no due process. The police should be reformed and equipped for optimal performance. They should be meant to face prosecution when they erred like the Governor of Enugu State did to a security aide,” he explained.

Kurugh, went further to said that the ‘ENDSARS’ protest was also to rescue Nigeria from its degenerating state as the people could no longer bear this high level of insensitivity of leaders to the plight of the masses.

He called for the sack of service chiefs whom their extra stay in office has not shown any form of improvement on the state of security to pave the way for new blood for different strategy.

The protesters frowned at the renewed move by the federal government to designate cattle routes across the country stressing that the federal government should direct her attention to the myriad of issues it was grabbling with due to failure in her responsibility.

They said the rate of unemployment was alarming. They also said, the federal government has failed in her primary responsibility of securing lives and property.

They called on President Buhari to fulfil his promise to fix refineries for the country to stop importing fuel as well as employ other blue measures to build a stronger economy that would bring Nigerians out of their current plight.

They denied allegations of being sponsored by politicians to tarnish the image of the federal government through protest saying only people who are not affected by what is going on can muster such sentiments.

From Joseph Ebi Kanjo

Edo State government has vowed to bring to justice the killers of a Benin-based realtor and business man, Mr Joel Umwueni Isibor.

The 42 years old estate developer and owner of a boutique was sent to his untimely grave by unknown gunmen who broke into his store on Friday evening, penultimate week, and shot him at a close range.

The state deputy governor, Hon.

Dennis Idahosa, made the vow on Sunday on behalf of the state government when he visited the residence of the family of the deceased to commiserate with the bereaved family over the untimely death of their patriarch.

Idahosa, who said he received the news of the killing with a huge shock, condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of the Benin-based realtor.

He assured that the state government would not leave any stone unturned to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book.

Idahosa said Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, was deeply touched and saddened over the gruesome murder of a vibrant young and energetic man.

He assured that the state government would not leave any stone unturned to fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book.

He warned criminal elements to relocate from Edo State as the government would not compromise its stand on dealing decisively with criminals and their collaborators, using the instrumentality of the law, to serve as deterrent to others.

Idahosa added the state government would synergise with security agencies to launch high scale investigation into the matter, with a view to apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous act and bring them to justice.

He assured the bereaved family of the state government’s unwavering commitment to identify with them.

Responding, Mrs Joel Isibor, wife of the deceased business man, appreciated the state government for its prompt response to commiserate with the family, and described her husband’s death as a heinous crime against humanity.

She said the assailant laid ambush for her husband, while trying to lock the shop after the day’s business and opened fire on him, without any provocation, adding that nothing was removed from the store which painted a true picture of a well orchestrated assassination.

Mrs. Isibor said she was completely devastated, as the husband was the bread winner of the family and appealed to the state government to carry out thorough investigation to unravel the mystery surrounding the gruesome murder of her husband.

The deputy governor who was in a sober mood could not controlled his emotions as he broke down in tears.

Association Condemns Plateau Killings, Demands Urgent Govt Action

By Abel Zwànke, Lafia

The Zumunta Association USA Inc., a Pan-Northern Nigerian diaspora group based in Washington, D.C., has strongly condemned the ongoing spate of killings in Plateau State and other parts of Northern Nigeria, calling on the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive action to end the bloodshed.

In a statement on Tuesday by the National President Bitrus Sunday stated that the association described the killings as senseless and brutal, expressing deep concern over the increasing frequency and scale of the attacks that have claimed the lives of scores of men, women, and children.

“This disturbing trend has become a national crisis,” the association said.

“We are compelled to ask — is there a functioning government in place? Are we at war?”

The group lamented the apparent lack of effective security response and accountability from authorities, stating that the victims are more than just statistics.

“These are human lives — lives cut short without cause, leaving behind grieving families and shattered communities,” the statement read.

Zumunta Association emphasized that the violence must be investigated thoroughly, with root causes such as land disputes, political manipulation, religious tension, or reprisals identified and addressed.

“The nation demands answers, and more importantly, action,” the association stressed, while reaffirming its commitment to non-violent conflict resolution.

“Peace cannot be achieved if the perpetrators of violence are not held accountable, and if justice continues to elude the victims. Dialogue, mediation, and proactive community engagement must replace silence, neglect, and impunity,” the statement added.

The group also expressed the emotional toll on its members abroad who are frequently confronted with questions from their host communities about the recurring violence in Nigeria.

“It is disheartening and embarrassing that we must explain why these killings continue in a country that claims to uphold democracy and rule of law,” the association noted.

Zumunta Association called on the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional leaders, civil society organizations, and religious institutions to prioritize the protection of lives and property.

“This crisis must not be allowed to fester any further. Enough is enough,” the association declared.
