As more groups continue to agitate for self determination, a coalition known as the Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) yesterday raised the alarm over an alleged plot by an unnamed former Nigerian leader, some clerics and some politicians to undermine the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

YAF also alleged that the unnamed former leader and members of his group were the brains behind the agitations in the South West in search of Oduduwa nation.

The Forum’s National Coordinator, Adesina Animashaun, who led hundreds of other YAF members and residents during the motorcade, used the occasion to raise the alarm of the alleged plot by the former leader and his group to destabilize and bring down the President Buhari-led government.

National Coordinator of the Forum, Adesina Animashaun who stated this in a statement shortly after a motorcade in organized in Abeokuta, Ogun state also claimed that the group had concluded plans to hold a meeting in Abuja on Thursday, June 10, 2021 to further their alleged plot.

Animashaun added that the motorcade was organized in continuation of its sensitization of the people of the South-West to be wary of the alleged evil plans by some individuals and groups to launch attacks on security agents and formations in the South-West.

The Forum, therefore, urged Nigerians, government and security agencies to immediately take appropriate actions against the members of his group to nip their plans in the bud by ensuring that the planned Abuja meeting does not hold on Thursday or any other day.

“It has come to YAF’s notice that a disgruntled former leader of this country and other politicians, working in collaboration with their allies in other parts of the world, have begun some clandestine meetings in one of the South-West states, with the ultimate objective of undermining and bringing down the incumbent administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, out of sheer malice.

“YAF has identified these disgruntled leaders, particularly northern clerics and some politicians in the South-West and other parts of the country as the core and nucleus of this group of unpatriotic leaders plotting against President Buhari.

“YAF makes bold to tell all Nigerians that this group of disgruntled leaders has concluded plans to hold a meeting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday, June 10, 2021 to fine-tune the strategy for their plot.”

YAF also urged the security agencies, including the military, police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to activate their machineries against the alleged plotters.

The Forum further threatened to mobilize its members across Yorubaland and the country to “confront these unpatriotic former leaders, if they fail to desist from their nefarious plans to destabilize the country.”

Meanwhile, YAF also disclosed that it had already sent petitions on the alleged plan to President Muhammadu Buhari; Governors of the six South-West states, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Speakers of the six South-West states’ Houses of Assembly, the Service Chiefs and traditional rulers in the zone.

Bayer Leverkusen and Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface was involved in a car crash on Sunday, a day after the club’s 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Boniface, who scored a 72nd-minute winner in Saturday’s match, on Sunday shared pictures and video of a smashed car in since-deleted posts on Instagram, as well as what appeared to be a picture of his hand covered in blood.

A club source said Boniface was doing well after incident.

German tabloid Bild reported that the Nigeria international was a passenger in the car en route to Frankfurt airport and suffered minor hand injuries before being taken to hospital.

In a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Boniface wrote: “God is the greatest”.

The Hessen state police website said the accident occurred on Sunday morning.

“A 28-year-old was driving a Mercedes in the middle of three lanes in the direction of Frankfurt when, according to his own account, he lost control of the vehicle due to fatigue.

“He  collided sideways with a truck that was driving in the right lane next to the Mercedes,” the report added.

Boniface’s management agency did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.

The 23-year-old Boniface has scored seven goals in 10 appearances for Leverkusen across all competitions this season.

German champions Leverkusen, who are fourth in the Bundesliga standings with 14 points from seven games, face French side Brest in the Champions League on Wednesday. (Reuters/NAN)

The Imo Police Command says it has dismantled a camp allegedly
operated by the Indigenous People of Biafra and its militant wing, called the Eastern Security Network, at Nempi, Oru West Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Owerri and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

Okoye said the bold move was part of the command’s ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and ensure public safety in the state.

He said the operation, carried out on Saturday by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also led to the detention of 29 suspects, including 25 males and four females.

He said that the operation was initiated, following the detention of a key suspect, Emmanuel Anukuru, 25, on September 15, at Mgbidi, near Owerri.

“His vital confessions enabled police operatives to locate and dismantle the camp.

“During the operation, several dangerous items were recovered, including four pump action guns, two locally made revolver, five locally made pistols, and three AK-47 magazines,” Okoye noted.

He added that a POS machine, 20 rounds of live cartridges, one white SUV and local bulletproof charms, used by the criminal syndicate were also recovered.

Okoye further stated that the sum of N200,000, allegedly extorted from kidnap victims, was recovered.

“These findings underscore the persistent threat posed by these groups in the state.

“Investigation is ongoing, efforts are in progress to apprehend the manufacturers of the locally made guns,” he emphasised.

The PPRO urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, and assured residents of the command’s commitment to public safety.

The command’s offensive was coming on the heels of a two-day sit-at-home order in the South-East via a viral video sent out by an unidentified person.

In the video, which has caused panic among the people, a man was seen warning residents of the region to remain indoors on Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22 for their own safety.

He claimed that the defunct Republic of Biafra was going to launch its flag and Armoured Personnel Carriers in the five states of the region on the two days.

He feared that security agencies would attempt to counter the move and consequently resulting in a mayhem in the zone.  (NAN)
