From Leo Zwanke, Lafia
In an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Thursday, a renowned philanthropist and businessman, Dr. Muhammed Musa Maikaya, expressed his readiness to build on the developmental foundation laid by Governor Abdullahi Sule as Nasarawa State gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.
Maikaya, who holds the traditional title of Chiroman Toto and is the Chief Executive Officer of the Maikaya Development Foundation (MDF), said his focus is on deepening the gains recorded under the present administration while driving fresh reforms in education, agriculture, and youth empowerment. He said leadership at this crucial time requires continuity, compassion, and competence to sustain the tempo of growth across the state, “Nasarawa’s potential is boundless, but it demands leaders who listen, act, and unite,” he said. “We must continue to invest in our youth, empower women, and strengthen peace among our diverse communities. My goal is to sustain the progress we’ve made and move our state to even greater heights.”Maikaya noted that Sule’s administration has laid a strong foundation in economic growth, infrastructural development, and industrialization, which he intends to expand through people-driven policies and partnerships.Through the Maikaya Development Foundation, the Chiroman Toto has touched thousands of lives with impactful projects. Recently, the foundation disbursed N20,000 each to 525 indigent students pursuing tertiary education across the country to support their academic pursuits.According to him, the initiative is part of his belief that education remains the greatest tool for social transformation. “Education is the great equalizer,” Maikaya stated. “When we support our children to learn and achieve, we are investing in Nasarawa’s future.”In the health sector, MDF has enrolled 750 vulnerable individuals into the Nasarawa State Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring access to quality healthcare for families that could not afford medical bills. The foundation has also received multiple recognitions, including the Most Supportive of Women MSME MFB Award, for promoting women entrepreneurship and small business development. Institutions such as Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and the College of Nursing Sciences have also honoured Maikaya for his contributions to humanitarian service and community development.Political observers describe Maikaya as a bridge between traditional and modern leadership, a man who embodies cultural values while embracing progressive ideas. His title, Chiroman Toto, symbolizes wisdom, mentorship, and commitment to community service.A stakeholder from Toto Local Government, Ahmed Saliu who spoke to our correspondent, described him as “a compassionate leader with a practical understanding of people’s needs.”Dr. Maikaya has consistently supported our youths, widows, and small business owners,” the stakeholder said. “His efforts have promoted peace and unity not only in Toto but across Nasarawa State.”Dr. Maikaya emphasized that his commitment to leadership stems from his passion for service rather than personal ambition.“Leadership is about compassion, competence, and continuity,” he said. “If given the opportunity, I will dedicate myself to ensuring that every citizen feels the impact of the government. We must create a Nasarawa where opportunities are shared equitably and every voice counts.”He further disclosed that his vision for Nasarawa includes modernizing agriculture, tackling youth unemployment through skill acquisition, and leveraging technology to bridge rural-urban gaps.“Our farmers must have access to modern tools. Our youths must be equipped with relevant skills. And our women must continue to drive the local economy through entrepreneurship,” he added. As consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, support for Dr. Maikaya continues to grow across Nasarawa, with youth groups, women associations, and traditional leaders urging him to formally declare his ambition. For now, the Chiroman Toto maintains that his focus remains on promoting unity, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development that touches every community in the state.NEWS
Sultan wasn’t invited to Ecumenical Chapel Event – CAN
By Laide Akinboade, Abuja
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) at the weekend, dismissed a misleading opinion and related social media claims alleging that the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, was invited to serve as “Royal Father of the Day” at the proposed foundation laying ceremony of the Ecumenical Chapel at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Media Office of CAN in Abuja.
They said no invitation was extended to the Sultan, this was in response to the rapid spread of the claim across social media and opinion platforms, where it has drawn attention and stirred concern about possible religious tension.
CAN’s intervention seeks to correct the narrative and steady public perception before it escalates.
The statement reads in part, “We state, firmly and without equivocation, that no such invitation was extended to the Sultan by CAN. This claim is false.
“For the record, the material in question was made public by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and not from CAN. At no point did CAN release any such invitation.
“Beyond its inaccuracy, the narrative appears deliberately framed to provoke religious sensitivities and manufacture controversy where none exists. At a time when national unity requires careful stewardship, such distortions are reckless and unacceptable.
“CAN remains unwavering in its dual commitment: to uphold the integrity of Christian faith and worship, and to promote peaceful coexistence and mutual respect among all Nigerians. These are not competing values; they are complementary responsibilities”.
The statement noted, “However, truth must never be sacrificed on the altar of sensationalism. The suggestion that the Sultan was assigned any role in the ceremonial proceedings is entirely unfounded and should be dismissed in its entirety.
“We therefore call on the media, opinion leaders, and the general public to act with responsibility: verify before amplifying, question before believing, and prioritise facts over virality.
“Let it be clearly and finally stated: the Sultan of Sokoto was not invited. The story in circulation is the handiwork of mischief makers and should be disregarded”
